“If someone finds out?—”

“No one even knows what I look like!” she hissed.

Who the hell was this woman?

“No, end of discussion.” Ryder snarled, grabbing her by the upper arm.

As soon as he pulled her, a cat jumped at him, transforming into a much bigger cat, it was a fucking cheetah. Ryder snarled at Soren and tried to intercept the cat. If I wasn’t so heartbroken the scene would have been hilarious, but I took her distraction.

I uncorked the vial, chugged it while I got up and ran. The effects were immediate. My body felt replenished, re-energized and I felt damn near invincible. Caston might think he had won, but no one fucked with my mates without paying for it.

Vampire speed was something I wished I had at the moment, but I made good time. Every second counted when I had no idea what Caston’s plans were. I entered the castle listening for anyone as I made my way to the stairs from the pack room. Certain areas of the castle were on fire and as much as I wanted to spend time stopping them, I just didn’t have any time. My men were more important than this castle.

An idea formed in my head as I climbed all the way to our bedroom. I quickly looked for more throwing knives, opening the big chest at the foot of the bed. Serena left me with more artifacts than I knew what I would do with. It seemed she knew exactly how this was going to go.

I grabbed a holster she had designed to hold her arsenal, seeing that there were three more vials of Oria. Dread pooled in my stomach that I would need to use them, but I took them and secured them in my holster. I grabbed another thigh holster for more knives, feeling like I was going to war, but instead of feeling worried or scared, a sense of calm overcame me with a rush of power.

They will try and use the same spell, child. You cannot let this happen.

I stayed still for a moment, trying to process what the hell had just happened. The goddess just spoke to me, and it felt like she had given me power or boosted my own. I was in shock, trying to figure out what was going on when an urgency to get going hit me. I didn’t have time to figure it out now.

Before I left the room, I saw the Luna necklace sitting on the nightstand. I was about to leave when I decided to go back for it and clasp it around my neck. Taking a deep breath when I felt their power.

Guide me, please.

I don’t know who I was saying it to, but I needed all the help I could get. Looking back at the room one more time, I made my way to the end of the hall where Lucien once brought me when we questioned those men. I slipped onto the roof, crawling on my stomach to the edge, seeing people surrounding my mates who had been tied up in the middle of a circle, on their knees.

Aeon was slumped over, unconscious. Lucien was wide-eyed looking around, and Zev looked like he was getting ready to murder everyone. There had to be at least fifty people down there. If all of them contributed to the spell, there wasn’t much they couldn’t do.

The faintest sound behind me caught my attention, but I stayed still, making them think I hadn’t noticed them. I quickly turned around, throwing a knife at them, but saw it was Gray who, of course, caught my knife.

“Kat, what the hell are you doing here?” He whisper-yelled at me.

“Saving my men.” I rolled my eyes at him, turning around so I could look for my family.

“It’s an illusion, they weren’t here,” he said, reading my mind.

Relief flooded me, making this so much easier, realizing there was no way he could have gotten to my father and my sister. They were too protected and Caston would be an idiot to go against them, which made sense he came here first.

“Gray, are you up for a rescue and some illusion magic?” I asked. “If you need to leave, I completely understand. I know a certain blonde will be grateful to see you well.”

He blushed.

“Baby, you know torturing people in any way is my favorite thing.” He gave me an unhinged smile and I was grateful he was going to stay.

“You can kill everyone except Caston, and we are going to make them think there are more than just the two of us.”

I smiled as I took the scene before me. I knew exactly what I was going to do.

Tonight, Caston would die, and I would make sure we all took part in it, making him and his family suffer. They had hurt my family, and it was time to pay the piper.

ZEV

As soon as one of the vampires took Katarina away, I felt like the weight on my shoulders had lifted. She was safer with him, away from this mess. I had a bad feeling from the start when Caston had shown up with almost ninety people, holding her sister and father hostage.

The Belladonnas were a powerful coven, I didn’t see how he would be able to fight them and win. What did he have that would make it so easy to infiltrate, and take hostages? It turns out he hadn’t. It was all fake, using an illusion to make it seem like he had her family. When Lucien and I were overrun with enemies, feeling sluggish from whatever was on those knives, they brought us to the fucking shit ex -husband.
