“I don’t know, I could ask Serena if she knows what happened or possibly bring me a text so we could find out.”

His incandescent gaze felt different today. Usually, he looked like he still hated me, but today he just looked relieved. Zev grumbled something as we all watched him come to bed. He climbed right behind me, pressing his body against my own, wrapping an arm around my waist like we did this all the time.

Aeon and Lucien were staring at us, but I glared at them because I didn’t want to spook Zev. His body flushed against mine made me feel things that I knew I shouldn’t be, but Zev was like a drug. I was addicted to our fighting, his angry scowls and the weird ways he showed affection.

“We were in many wars when I was growing up. Everyone had animosity between each other. Witches hated shifters, shifters hated vampires, we were a bunch of children who didn’t know how to get along.” He nuzzled the back of my neck giving me goosebumps as he pushed my shirt up to rest his large hand on my soft stomach. Laying like this wasn’t the most flattering and I knew I had grown softer with all those bread rolls. “I can’t imagine being hunted, but if I had to take a guess, war wiped us out and our lineages grew weak over time. Our pack was thriving until the curse. If I had been one of the people leaving with my family, I would have looked for something quieter, and less stressful. But I would need to be around people like us or just basic shifters.”

“That makes sense,” I said, hyper aware of everything but also thinking being surrounded by all three of them like this was the best feeling in the world.

“I think we owe it to ourselves to find out what happened and see if we might find a pack that is similar to us.” Aeon looked down at me, amused, like he knew what was going through my head.

“I’ll ask Serena, maybe we can do research while we wait for Ryder and the twins to find what we need.” My eyelids felt heavy, like I hadn’t just slept almost the entire day.

“Did you sleep with any of them?”

“Excuse me?” I looked over my shoulder at Zev who didn’t even bother to look me in the eyes.

“You heard me,” he said, sounding annoyed.

“Yes, with all of them,” I said angrily out of retaliation.

I’m honestly surprised he didn’t ask sooner.

“Liar.” He nipped at my neck.

“Then why did you ask?” I snapped.

“I just wanted to make sure we didn’t have to kill anyone when they got back,” he growled.

“That’s good, I think I would have felt bad killing them after they helped us,” Aeon muttered, and I hit his chest.

“There will be no killing, Ryder and the twins have been there?—”

“Then maybe they should have stopped that abusive asshole you had for a husband.” Lucien looked at me with disgust on his face. “Just hearing that makes me want to kill them from not stopping his abuse.”

“They couldn’t have. You don’t go against the Belladonnas. My father was watching Caston and I closely. He would have noticed something, and I would have been punished for it,” I said. I loved that they wanted to defend me, but there was no point in getting upset or threatening to kill the people who had helped Serena and me the most.

“Fine, then let’s just kill her father when we get out of here,” Aeon said nonchalantly.

I laughed.

“You don’t think we can do it?” Zev questioned.

“No. I laughed because you guys are way too candid about killing people, but I think if we kill anyone, it will be Caston.”

“That’s a given, Kit Kat. I think we should string him up from the highest point of the castle by his intestines.” Lucien sounded downright giddy talking about death, but I understood.

Caston was a piece of shit who needed to die. The guys talked about the many ways they would enjoy torturing and maiming Caston. Most of the ideas were pretty creative, but soon my eyes felt so heavy. I didn’t know if it would ever happen, but I hoped one day I would be free from that man. Their warmth, their voices and their proximity let me sleep more peacefully. I just wished this could be every night.

LUCIEN

Afew days passed without any word from Serena. I knew it was irrational to start to panic, but as every day passed, I grew more and more worried. What if this was the last chance we got to break the curse? What if this spell didn’t break it and because it took so long to get the items we needed, we didn’t have time for another attempt?

The storm outside was raging, matching my mood. It was a full blown blizzard, the visibility was low and it was miserably fucking cold. I immediately took a bath to get some feeling in my body from sleeping out in the cold. At least my wolf had a sense to sleep in the small barn, but it was still cold inside it.

I dressed in something warmer than usual because the draft in the castle was frigid. Katarina laid on the bed reading a romance novel completely immersed in a why choose novel by one of her three favorite authors. I couldn’t help but smile at her reading about a group of people who had sex, wondering if this was the reason she wasn’t completely against having all of us together.
