“It wasn’t stupid, and I don’t know if you had a chance with any of them. To me it looks like they are all yours no matter what,” she said, looking over my shoulder. “You could have also done worse than three gorgeous men who look like they would protect you from anything.”

I laughed because she was right, I could have done worse, like Caston.

“I’m afraid to lose them and I’m afraid what happens to them if I die.” I bit my lip to keep from crying.

“You won’t, I won’t let it happen and neither will they,” Serena said, with so much conviction it was hard not to believe her. “I love you and we will get through this.”

I put my hand up and so did she. We were so close, but so far away and I regretted not hugging her when I had the chance the last time I saw her.

“I’m always here for you Serena, if you need to talk or if you need me to just listen,” I said, putting my forehead against the barrier as she did the same thing.

“Read the book I sent, I think Zev will find the answers he is looking for in there and it will also explain more than I can. Just please don’t be mad at me.” She gave me a sad smile that made my stomach lurch in dread. “Take care of her!”

She yelled looking behind me and I felt them walking closer to me.

“I love you,” I yelled at her. “Please take care of yourself!”

“Always, now get back to your mind-blowing sexcapades and have an orgasm for me!”

I laughed as she got into the car. There was a heaviness on my chest now that she was leaving, and I hoped this wasn’t the last time I ever saw her.

ZEV

The moment the Belladonna said she hadn’t heard from the wolf, I wanted to lash out, throw something, anything to ease the rush of anxiety I was feeling. That night no one said anything as we all went up to the room and got into bed. I laid there until the call of the curse was too much to withstand.

Now I was freezing my ass off trying to get through the storm to get inside. My emotions were a turbulent cyclone. I knew Katarina was the only one to help ease the turmoil. She had been too quiet yesterday. I had expected her to cry, to be angry, or even yell at me, something to show emotion, but her silence was worse.

The storm felt like it was picking up when it swung the door open, letting in the storm. Mr. Potter had to help me with the door and even then, it was hard to shut.

“I didn’t expect it to be this bad, but I will get more wood from the shed to make sure you all are warm,” he said to me, before disappearing.

“Are you alright?” Katarina’s voice was laced with worry.

“Just a little cold, that storm is vicious. Are Lucien and Aeon?—”

“Yeah, they came in about an hour ago. They were both shivering with their lips blue,” she said, grabbing my hand.

She led me up the steps to their bedroom that had also become mine in the last few weeks. She was bundled up in her favorite sweatshirt with those painted on pants and little fur slippers. It had become her staple clothes since the last few weeks had been extremely cold. Ostara was just around the corner, but there looked to be no spring in sight anytime soon.

“The bath is ready for you,” she said, hauling me into the room straight to the bathroom, just as I caught a glimpse of Lucien and Aeon by the fire “I put some?—”

My need for her was overwhelming, I wanted to pull her in for a kiss. I knew I wouldn’t be soft like Lucien or confident and suave like Aeon, but our relationship was anything but ordinary. My intention was a soft kiss that showed my appreciation, but I couldn’t.

“Zev,” she gasped, when I picked her up but instead of kissing her, I brought her in for a hug, rubbing my face against her neck and shoulder, wishing I could give her that part of myself.

“Zev as much as I would love for you to fuck this fear out of me, we need to come up with a plan,” she said slowly wrapping her arms around me.

“Let’s figure something out, and then I’ll make sure the only thing you are thinking about is your next orgasm,” I said, setting her down. “I think you deserve some freedom from your endless negative thoughts.”

“Please.” Her eyes watered with unshed tears.

“I’ll be quick,” I said, kissing her forehead before climbing into the tub, grabbing the soap to wash myself quickly.

“May I?”

She pointed to my hair, but apprehension made me slow to answer.
