“You don’t have to,” I said, continuing to wash my arms enjoying the feel of the warm water.

She walked to the tub looking like a scared child walking up to a beast. I dipped my head in the water getting ready for her to wash my hair that desperately needed it. She was gentle, and her hands felt amazing, but this felt too domestic for us. She massaged shampoo on my scalp working her way through my strands. It was something I had never paid attention to myself, but when she did it, it felt amazing.

It was over too quickly, only making me want her to continue, until I had to shift again. She ran her fingers through my hair taking out the tangles until she laid her hands on my shoulders. If I didn’t know better, I would say she was stalling.

“Go, Katarina,” I commanded, so she knew I meant business. “I’ll be out in a minute, and we can figure out what we need to do.”

She took a deep breath before she left the bathroom. I quickly finished washing myself, and drying off quickly before putting on the pants that were left out for me. My nerves were everywhere, if Katarina was feeling like this, I could only imagine how Aeon and Lucien were faring.

I walked to see Mr. Potter come into the room setting a tray on the floor by the fireplace where everyone was sitting. The room was stifling with everyone’s worries. Katarina looked uncomfortable, like she was on the verge of losing it.

“So, what do you think we should do, Katarina?” I asked, taking control of the situation.

“I honestly don’t know,” she whispered, looking nothing like the confident Hellcat I knew she could be.

“Aeon.” I looked at him.

“I think we should use what we have to weave the spell now, and if it doesn’t work we still have time to look for something else.” He also looked unsure about his words.

“Lucien,” I said, looking at him and expecting to see him unsure, but he was anything but.

“We should wait for Ryder, he’s going to come through. If we half-ass the spell then we will have spent precious time getting ready for something that might not even work.” He glared at Aeon.

There it was. The reason Katarina didn’t want to come back out to the room. Aeon and Lucien had been at each other’s throats, and she was caught in the middle.

“Mr. Potter?” I asked, knowing he was still behind me.

“I think we should do both spells. If Ryder comes back, we have the spell ready and if not, we have a circle ready for another spell,” he said, and I knew that was the solution.

“I don’t know if we have enough supplies for both, but I think most of the stuff we can ask Serena for,” Katarina added.

When I looked at her, I saw the wheels turning in her head.

“I think with any spell we are going to need a moon-powered circle, so it makes sense to do two.” Katarina pulled out a notebook, flipping through a few pages.

“If we are doing both, we are going to need larges batches of?—”

I let Katarina and Aeon discuss doing both circles, but when I turned around to Mr. Potter to say thank-you, he was gone. It seems he planted the seed he wanted, leaving us to figure out the rest.

“This is why I wanted to do one spell, we won’t?—”

“But what if he comes back? What if it fails?” Katarina snapped at him.

“It’s a chance we have to take, we can’t rely on anyone.” Aeon was getting irritated. “We tried to rely on your friends, but obviously this was too much for them to handle.”

“We don’t know what happened. You can just assume they didn’t want to do it, but who knows what happened. The dealcould have gone bad, or maybe they were lured into a trap. Ryder, Gray and Soren are the best at what they do.” She took a deep breath. “They are wanted by many people, and they have a lot of enemies. The world we live in was very different from the world you lived in.”

“I just think that it’s not a coincidence that Zev gave them a bag full of gold coins only for them to never be heard from again,” Aeon snarled. “Maybe you didn’t know them very well if a little gold caused them to disappear.”

“You think a little gold made them run away?” Katarina laughed. “They are richer than you can imagine and that little pouch of gold you gave them is a drop in their pockets.”

I didn’t know how much gold was nowadays, but if that was just a drop of their wealth, then Aeon’s logic wasn’t sound.

“Why else would they not return or communicate?” I asked.

She ran her hand through her hair, looking nervous. “One of the items I requested was a vial of Oria. As it is, it’s hard to get, but I requested more than usual and from what Ryder said, it’s getting more scarce.”

“You said it was?—”
