“Catch me!” she yelled.

I laughed because what did I expect? Lucien was grinning. Aeon looked like he was about to lose his shit. When Lucien caught his expression, his fell as well.

“We have tomorrow, A, and if all we can do is enjoy her today then that’s what we should do.” He clapped his shoulder before running after Katarina.

“You think fucking her brains out is going to make things better?” he snarled at me.

“It worked the last time she was feeling like this. You of all people know what this does for her and if gets her head back into the game then why not?” I walked to the door. “If she needs this, who am I to deny her and why would I? We need both of you if we are going to get out of this alive. One night is a small price to pay for both of you to get your anger out and do what we need you to do.”

I walked out of the room expecting him to stay behind, but when the sound of his footsteps followed me, I couldn’t help the smirk that grew.

I jogged down the stairs, sniffing the air, hoping Aeon would just feel for her when I heard the melody of her laughter coming from the hallway she used to stay in.

“Kit Kat, you know you can’t run from me.” Lucien’s voice was coming towards us fully expecting to see Katarina, but when Lucien was the only one to come out, we all looked at each other, confused.

“You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?” Katarina giggled when I saw her try to sneak past us to the east wing.

I ran to her before she skidded to a halt and took the hall to the pack room. She wasn’t running fast, probably from the slippers she had on, but I chased her leaving enough room for her to feel safe. Once she reached the door, I lunged for her when a wall of fire appeared, halting me from catching her.

The storm was still raging outside when she opened the door and ran out.

“She’s going to freeze to death,” Aeon said, getting on my nerves.

“Nope, she is going to the library,” Lucien said, running out of the room and I followed him. He was right.

“You’re just going to leave her outside?” Aeon yelled.

“No, you are going to go make sure she goes to the library,” Lucien yelled.

I heard a grumble before the door opened and he followed her.

“What crawled up his ass?” I asked, as we jogged to the library.

“He had a vision, and it wasn’t pretty,” Lucien said with heartbreak in his voice.

“Did he tell her?” I asked, when we entered, stopping to listen for her.

“No, he doesn’t want to freak her out anymore,” Lucien said, pushing me behind a shelf of books.

“You baby her too much.”

“There’s nothing wrong with protecting her especially when the vision showed her getting taken, living a life chained to a bed bearing children to a man who beats her and is unfaithful to her.” He looked back at me with anger marring his innocent face.

“Shit, that—” I didn’t know what to say. “You’re right, she doesn’t need to know that.”

“He needs to die, Zev, and I want to be the one to tear his limbs from his body,” he said, his voice lethal.

“We won’t just kill him once, we will bring him back only to do it again and again.” I promised.

“Fuck you, Aeon!”

“Katarina, I’m not trying to be?—”

“But you are!” Katarina screamed.

I was about to go to her when Lucien held me still.

“I only want to protect you!”
