“She’s not the only one I see die, Lu.” Another tear fell.

“Goddess, A, why haven’t you said anything?” I got up to look at him seeing that he was close to breaking too.

“Because… What’s the point?” He shrugged as his lips trembled. “I won’t be able to stop it, there are so many possibilities that I don’t know which one is the most probable. You could die because I can’t hone my power, I will fail you all.”

I threw myself at him, hating that he had to go through this.

“You don’t have to go through this alone. You are not alone, Aeon,” I said, with as much conviction as I could muster.

“Shit, Lucien, I didn’t mean to make this about me.” He pushed me back to wipe his tears.

“You didn’t, we can both wallow in our heartache together.” I kissed his cheek.

“I just don’t want to do this in front of Katarina.” He took a deep breath. “She doesn’t need to see me fall apart when I know she’s hanging on by a thread.”

“Maybe she just needs a good cry,” I said, wiping the rest of his tears, holding his face in my hands.

“I can feel her inner turmoil on occasion, she lets her guard slip and it's a maelstrom of emotions that threatens to pull me under too,” he said, shivering like he could feel her emotions now.

Where are you?

Zev’s voice filled my head.

We have a problem.

Aeon and I immediately got up from the tub as I responded.

Where are you?

I used my fire to dry off as Aeon ran a towel over his body as we ran out of the room sans clothing.

Library with Katarina. Clodius is gone.

Aeon and I stopped mid-step, both of us transforming into wolves.

I just saw him not even thirty minutes ago. I’ll search the perimeter.

I ran down the rest of the stairs heading out to see if he was still on the property. When I felt electricity course through every fiber of me.

Lucien! Zev, he’s here by the landing of the stairs.

I snarled at the pain, trying to create a wall of fire in hopes it would deflect his magic. He increased the intensity, but it was short-lived as it abruptly stopped.

“Fuck!” Clodius shouted.

I looked up to see Aeon. His eyes had darkened to a pitch black and he was doing something to Clodius. He was too engrossed in fighting Clodius to see the spark of lightning leave his fingertips. Trying to get up, I saw it hit Aeon right in the chest.

Clodius was released from whatever Aeon was doing to him. I snarled and launched myself at him, but my body wasn’t working as I saw him run in the direction of the library.

Zev, he’s headed towards you.

My limbs started to work as I made my way to Aeon, but my body was still shaking from the electricity.

“Oh my goddess.” A woman’s voice came from behind me. “Are you ok?”

Turning my head around quickly, I saw Katarina’s sister, Serena, running towards me.

“There are more men outside the property,” Mr. Potter said, floating by Serena. “I found her by the gate.”
