“You know people always find a way to make the worst shit and keep it available,” she said.

“Applecide is extremely rare but not hard to find when you know who to ask.” Soren helped me up when he saw I was having a hard time getting up..

“I wouldn’t be surprised if these knuckleheads know someone they could ask.” Serena rolled her eyes.

“We have a business to run, don’t hate us because we know the secrets of the dark market and profit from it.” Ryder walked towards us completely naked.

“You know things like applecide are extremely dangerous in the wrong hands; you know what people could do. You’ve met Nivia, she was in a coma for over fifty years because her stepmother thought she needed to be queen instead of Nivia,” Serena snapped at Ryder.

“I don’t make the rules Serena, I just play the game, there are worse things out there than applecide.” Ryder looked at me from head to toe. “You ok, Katarina?”

I nodded, but I looked him straight in the eye, something I’ve never done before. Ryder always exuded power, making me feel the need to submit to him because I was so weak, but now that I had power of my own, I didn’t feel the need to. There was something different about his gaze too, like he knew too much.

“Well, I guess we don’t have to break you out anymore, but I think we need to figure out what we need to do.” Serena looked at Ryder. “Is there a place we can keep her so no one knows she has escaped, maybe we?—”

“Excuse me?” I looked at Serena.

“I’m assuming you don’t want to go back to Caston,” she said looking at me worried.

“Of course not, but I can’t leave.” I don’t know why I wanted to lash out at her, the thought of leaving the guys made me feel nauseous.

“You’re free, Kat,” she scoffed at me. “You don’t owe them anything.”

She grabbed my hand, but I pulled back quickly.

“I’m not leaving them, Serena,” I snapped.

“Look, we can keep you safe,” Soren said, looking between Serena and me. “We have a few locations no one knows about, he won’t find you.”

I looked away from them only to catch Gray’s gaze. He looked at me with sympathy, they all knew my situation which made me feel even worse. I hated that everyone seemed to know that my relationship with Caston was an abusive one and he cheated on me.

“Look, I appreciate the help, but I can’t leave,” I said, not wanting Serena to find out about my mating like this. It was supposed to be done in private, not with Ryder and the twins here.

“Do you have Stockholm?” Serena looked at me in shock with a little bit of disgust in her tone. “They don’t care about you, Katarina. They are just men who are trying to use you so you can break the spell for them and release them from their curse, but you’re free.”

I laughed that she really thought I had Stockholm syndrome.

“Goddess, are we going to have to have someone look into your mind, get you fixed so that?—”

“Serena!” Ryder growled.

I immediately wanted to lash out at her, but I was also surprised that Ryder was standing up for me.

“I’m going back,” I said, walking away.

“Katarina,” Serena huffed in annoyance. “Look you aren’t thinking right, let’s just get some space and we can dissect what happened.”

“I’m not some child who needs you to fix my problems, I’m going back and that’s all there’s to it. We don’t even know if this will keep me from dying.”

I kept walking, hearing the guys following us.

“Soren, can you please help me? Once we get her some space she will come to her senses, they’ve done something to her mind.” Serena’s hand grabbed my upper arm, and I turned around to bare my teeth at her.

“You will not take me away from my mates,” I snapped. “And I will not take a chance on this necklace, I need to break the spell.”

“Mates?” She looked at me in disbelief. “Katarina please don’t tell me you would be stupid enough?—”

“Serena, that’s enough,” Ryder growled at her standing between us.
