“Goddess, Katarina, do you know what you are asking of me?” Zev ran a hand down his face. “Do you really think this spell isn’t going to work?”

“No, but if I die in a week, I can’t let any of you follow me. I need to give you a chance to be free and this is the only way I know how to do it.” I clenched my jaw, hating that I had to put him in this position. “I’m just trying to have a back-up plan just in case.”

“Just in case? Fuck, Katarina. Why me?” He started to pace.

“You’re the most objective, and I felt like you would be the most reasonable,” I said, holding back from rushing to comfort him. “You’re the alpha of this pack, you know it's a possibility I won’t survive. You’ve thought about it, and I know you don’t want your pack mates to suffer. I’m offering a solution.”

“Breaking our bond isn’t a solution,” he snapped at me.

“You know it is. If I die, your grief will consume you and that is not a life I want you to live,” I rebutted. “All of you deserve a life outside these walls, please let me give you a chance to achieve that.”

“The spell is going to work, we shouldn’t even be talking about this,” Zev said, as he stopped pacing, looking at me before he walked over to me.

His tall frame loomed over me before he pulled me in for a hug.

“I just got you.” His voice sounded gruff with emotion. “I know it's my fault I just got you, but…”

“Either way, you lose me whether I die or I break the bond.” I rubbed my cheek against his chest. “At least if you break the spell, you still have a chance to live life after the curse.”

“What’s the point of living, if I don't get to do it with you by my side. Why would I want to be free, living in a world without you in it?” Zev’s voice was full of emotion before he took a deep breath.

“Zev—” My lip trembled. “I don’t know what else to do, if I die…”

“Katarina.” Zev pulled away to look at me up and down. “Are you feeling ok?”

“Yeah, I’m just tired,” I said, when he took a deep breath against my neck.

“Katarina, is that all you're feeling?”

“Yeah, the spell is taking a lot out of me, I just?—”

Zev grabbed my hand and dragged me to the edge. “We have to see Mr. Potter.”

“Zev, what’s going on?” I asked, as he helped me down the bookcase.

Once my feet hit the floor, Zev picked me up and walked us out of the library.

“Zev, you can put me down,” I said, but snuggled up close to him because why not.

He growled at me like some fucking cave man.

“Mr. Potter!” He yelled when we got close to the kitchen. “Meet us in the larder downstairs.”

“Zev, what the fuck is going on?”

He took me to the dungeon without saying a word.

“If you don’t tell me what’s going on I’m going to…”

“I think she is with child,” Zev said, sitting me on a table with Mr. Potter in the room.

“What the hell?” I glared at Zev. “How the hell did you figure that? I think I would be the first to know.”

“You smell different, and I remember the pregnant females of our pack always smelled a little different,” he said, staring back at me. “You've also been extremely tired.”

“When was your last cycle?” Mr. Potter asked as he grabbed a few things out of a cupboard.

“It was…” I tried to remember, but I just couldn’t.
