“I love you, today, tomorrow and into the afterlife,” he whispered back, wiping my face.

One tear fell down his cheek and I caught it with a kiss.

“Come on, let's get this over with.” Lucien helped me stand up to finish getting ready.

I took a deep breath shoving my emotions away so I could get through this spell without crying.

I wore the dress that I had used for the previous spell, having charged all the stones on it, hoping that this was going to aid me. Lucien zipped up my dress and kissed my shoulder before leaving me. He wanted to run one more time around the perimeter with the guys. They were worried about an attack if I did break the spell, but I was convinced that an attack wouldn’t come tonight.

Once the spell was broken, then that meant my mates would no longer be weak, along with our bond. We didn’t know what kind of power they would hold, and if I knew Caston, he would not go into a fight blind even if he did feel like he had the numbers. I mean, he would come for us eventually. I imagine he was livid about the death of his best friend and losing me to wolves. A part of me wanted to be scared, but I knew if I survived there was no way in hell Caston would ruin our freedom.

I put my shoes on, and slipped on my jewelry before I took one last glance at myself in the mirror. It seemed strange that I had been here a year, and everything was riding on what happened tonight. I longed for Serena to be here, to guide me or just be here for me with everything she knew.

“Katarina, are you ready?”

I looked over to see Mr. Potter, nodding my head. This was it. He held out his arm for me, but I hugged him one more time, squeezing him tightly. “I love you. Tell your mate she is a lucky woman and I hope you enjoy the afterlife with her.”

“You make sure you keep those boys on their toes. Don’t forget to give all your children love from me, I’ll look forward to seeing them during Samhain.” He kissed my forehead. “You are an amazing woman, bow to no one, and you make sure that your awful husband knows his place.”

“I’ll make sure he begs for his life on his knees,” I smiled.

“Or torture him for the rest of his life,” he chuckled.

“I'm sure the boys would want to do something gruesome to him and I might just let them.” I laughed.

“Good luck, Darling.” He held his arm out for me.

I held on, enjoying the last moment with him, his comforting nature and his reassuring presence. Halfway down the stairs, Aeon stood looking up at us. His expression was hard, his body looked tight. He looked so wound up, I was worried about him.

“Hey, babe,” I said immediately, going to him.

“Kitten.” He nodded at me, then looked up to Mr. Potter. “Thank you… for everything.”

His voice was rough with emotion, he was barely keeping it together.

“You know I would have done anything for you boys. Your fathers would be proud.”

Aeon gave a sharp nod before I felt Mr. Potter disappear. His brows were furrowed, with a scowl on his face. He took my hand roughly, walking down the stairs quickly so that I had to run to keep up with him.

“Hey,” I said, trying to pull my hand away.

He didn’t respond.

“Babe,” I said, stopping, but his movement pulled me forward.

“Aeon!” I yelled, when we reached the bottom of the stairs.

He whipped his head around at me with a scowl on his face.

“What?” he snapped.

As much as I wanted to snap back at him that he was being an asshole, I had seen this side of him before. He was scared.

“Baby,” I said, stepping closer to him.

His nostrils flared as his lip trembled.

“Don’t, Katarina,” he whispered, as he swallowed roughly.
