She might really do this. My mate and my child would live. I took a deep breath, seeing the magic building with each word she spoke. It made the air thick, and it was similar to the feel of Vivienne’s magic.

I knew the moment the spell took a turn for the worst. It happened so quickly that I didn’t get a chance to stop her from going further. The power was intense, it was volatile, and it was going to kill her. We all moved at the same time, but Aeon held us back when Katarina screamed.

“All together!” he yelled, reminding me of the night of our last failed attempt. It was deja vu, the disappointment hit me hard.

We all reached for her at the same time, and when we did it wasn’t like last time. The magic didn’t disperse, it grabbed ahold of all of us. The intensity made me grunt at the pain. I felt a pull in my chest like the magic was trying to rip something out of me. The pain was excruciating, I was on the edge of passing out when the familiarity of Vivienne's magic enveloped me. It was just like that night the spell had been unleashed on us, but it also felt different.

Fear flooded my system. I screamed in pain when it felt like I was on fire. The screams of my pack were increasing, the magic kept building, until I realized this might be the way we all go. If this is the way I died, then I was glad it was with my pack and my mate. None of us would be alone and we would live together in the afterlife.

No longer afraid, I stopped fighting, letting the magic do its job.

“No!”

A big boom of magic exploded, and I was thrown from the force of it. Hitting something hard, my vision swam as darkness claimed me.

There wasnothing but silence as I tried to open my eyes. The air was thick with debris, like an explosion had just occurred. Something heavy rested on my back, not letting me get up.

“Is everyone ok?” I tried yelling, but I coughed violently.

No one responded.

No. No. No.

I pushed up with all my might as terror hit me. I couldn’t lose all of them. If I had to suffer alone… I couldn’t do it. Panic was making me sloppy as I fought the debris on top of me. I was just about to give up when whatever was on my back was lifted off of me.

“Zev,” Mr. Potter said, helping me up, my body screaming in pain, even though nothing felt like it was broken.

Seeing him confirmed what I knew. She hadn’t broken the spell.

“Where is everyone else?” I coughed, seeing the destruction of the spell.

It had leveled the entire first floor, not a single bookcase was left standing. A small fire was back in the corner on one of the bookshelves. I didn’t immediately see any of them which kicked my panic into full on terror. Nothing was coming through the bond, making me think the worst.

Mr. Potter and I looked through the rubble when I found a hand peeking through.

“I got you,” I said, lifting books and other debris off of them.

Lucien's blonde hair poked out as I lifted a piece of wood off of him. I stood over him, fearing the worst, but the small movement in his chest gave me relief. He was alive. Slowly, I turned him over, careful not to hurt him anymore. He groaned when I laid him on my lap.

His face was bleeding from different cuts, the worst being a gash in his hair.

“I got you, don’t move,” I said, looking over his body.

“Where is she?” He breathed out.

“I don’t know,” I said, looking around. “She must be under the debris.”

“I found, Aeon!” Mr. Potter's voice rang out.

“Is that Mr. Potter?” Lucien looked up at me.

I nodded my head. His face crumbled into complete devastation. Tears fell freely from his eyes as he shuddered a breath in.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” he cried.

I leaned over him to embrace him. Lucien’s despair was suffocating.

“We have to look for them,” I said. “Or stay here and I’ll look for them.”
