I didn’t care, I just wanted to get right to racing.

The other three guys introduced themselves, but three new names was all I could handle in one night. I was fairly certain I wouldn’t remember either of their names in the morning.

“Where’s Ri?” Alexei asked. “Haven’t seen her around.”

Ben guys looked over his shoulder. “Somewhere out there racing with Christy and Lori. They’ll join us when they want to. You guys ready?”

“We were born ready,” Ken answered. It was the first word I’d heard him say tonight.

We climbed our bikes, revved our engines, anticipation building as the signal for the start of the race approached. The flag dropped, and we rocketed off the starting line, engines roaring as we leaned into the first curve.

The wind whipped against my helmet as I maneuvered through the track, feeling the rush of adrenaline with every turn. Alexei was right beside me, matching my speed and determination. The sound of our bikes echoed through the park as we raced neck and neck, each of us determined to outdo the other.

For those few moments, everything else faded away—the conflicts, the alliances, the chaos of my life. It was just me, my motorcycle, and the thrill of the race.

As we approached the final stretch, I felt a surge of exhilaration. Pushing myself to the limit, I edged past Alexei, crossing the finish line just ahead of him.

We both skidded to a stop, grinning beneath our helmets, the thrill of the race still coursing through our veins.

“Damn, Vlad! That was close!” Alexei laughed, removing his helmet.

“You can’t beat me, Alexei. Give it up already.” I replied, taking off my own helmet. “

“Looks like you boys have a new member,” a voice almost too familiar said behind us—a voice I could recognize even in my dreams.

When I turned around, I knew I’d been right. Mariana was standing beside me, wearing a black, leather pants and a jacket, her hair tied and slicked up in a ponytail.

My eyes darted to the helmet in her hand. “What’s that?”

“What does it look like?” she asked, smiling as she came closer, her rose scent filling the cold night air. “You aren’t the only one who knows how to ride a motorcycle, you know. I’m a member of this club.”

Chapter 7 - Mariana

I heard his voice before I saw his tall frame towering over Dan.

His back was turned to me, but I recognized Vlad’s voice from a mile away. How couldn’t I when he lived rent-free in my head since the night we met?

His long, dark, straight hair wasn’t in a ponytail tonight, he’d slicked it into a neat bun that made him look like a hottie straight out of an anime. His earrings glinted off the moonlight overhead.

Yeah, definitely Vlad Vadim.

What was he doing here? I’d been a member of this motorcycle club for over two years now. I knew all the members and he certainly wasn’t one of them. Was he stalking me? Did he come here just to piss me off?

“There they are,” Alexei said, nodding in our direction.

Christy gasped beside me. “Isn’t that the guy from the casino? What is he doing here?”

“Do you girls know him?” Lori asked, taking off her helmet and tucking it under her armpit. Christy and I met Lori when we joined the club. She’d been the only girl rider prior, and although we weren’t BFFs, we liked to ride far away from the boys and even had dinner together sometimes.

Vlad looked in our direction and I immediately wished the ground would swallow me.

“He is hot,” Lori said, gaping at Vlad as if he was some sort of candy she wanted to eat.

“And dangerous,” Christy added. “Trust me, you don’t want to get close to him.”

Lori smiled. “I like dangerous. Come on girls.”

Christy and Lori matched forward. I walked slowly behind them, dreading that I would be forced to have a conversation with Vlad tonight. I cringed, remembering the night at the gala and the way I’d left after my little cold war with Sophia.
