I’d been jealous. I hated that she stood so close to him, inhaling his cinnamon scent and basking in the heat rolling off him. Why was I even jealous? I didn’t like this guy.

“Hey.” Lori flashed a flirty smile at Vlad and my insides curled. “I’m Lori. What is your name?”

Vlad didn’t take his eyes off me, and I loathed the cocky smile on his face. “Vlad.”

“You joined the club today. How was your first day?” Lori sure did know how to strike up a conversation. I envied her boldness.

“Sadly, I didn’t join the club.” He finally retracted his gaze and fixed them on Lori. I stole the moment to take a deep inhale. “My ride though wasn’t so bad.”

“Um—You guys should go on and have fun without me. I have to wake up early for work tomorrow.”

“I’m coming with.” Christy looped the hand that wasn’t holding her helmet through mine. “Goodnight Dan. Night Ben and Ken. Xo Alexei.”

“It’s unlike you to leave so early. Is anything the matter?” Dan asked.

Usually, we’d set up a bonfire and share a few drinks after our races. I never missed out on that since it was the only sort of fun I could have and I was missing it for the first time. Surely, he’d notice something was wrong.

“I think she’s leaving because of me.” Vlad’s voice was deep it sparked something awake inside me.

I wanted to find his voice aggravating, but how could I when it made wetness flood between my legs. “You’re overestimating yourself.”

He chuckled. “Consider yourself lucky because you’re a woman and I like you. The last man who spoke to me like that didn’t earn just a chuckle from me.”

There he went. He couldn’t just hold himself back from sounding like a mafia mob. “What did you do? Kill him?”

He inched closer, whispering into my ears in a voice that simmered into my belly. “Something a lot worse, but I wouldn’t do that to you.”

I instinctively tried to pace backward as heat flushed through my body. Vlad snaked his hand around me, his grip firm and his touch burning through my leather jacket and searing through me in the most lustful way possible.

The sensation of his touch rippled through me like an electric current.

“Why running, can’t take the heat? Don’t worry, you’ll receive a different kind of punishment.”

I knew what he was driving at, where this would lead. Still, I dared ask. “What will my punishment be?”

“I’ll have you on your knees, begging for me.”

My stomach churned, butterflies erupting. “Dream on.”

“I’ve never been a dreamer. Never will be.” He took a step back, pushing a strand of hair off my face. “If I want something, I get it.”

“You guys know you can get a hotel room, right?” Lori had a disgusted look on her face when I looked over.

Flattening my palm on Vlad’s chest, I tried to push him away. My fingers clashed with the firm skin on his chest, feeling every muscle underneath. A sudden thought flashed through my head. I wanted to see him naked. I bet he looked better than he felt. “That won’t be happening, Vlad.”

“It will happen if I say so,moya zvezda.”

“Mariana.” Ugh. What didmoya zvezdaeven mean and why did he keep calling me that with a Russian accent? “Stop calling me that.”

Lori shook her head and let out an exasperated exhale. “He’s not getting your name wrong.Moya zvezdais the Russian word for star.”

So I was wrong? He wasn’t getting my name wrong all along but gave me a pet name instead? I flushed, my cheeks red from the embarrassment. “Not my fault,” I muttered. “He never told me what it meant.”

“Don’t you think I deserve an apology for the misunderstanding?”

I rolled my eyes. “As if I would apologize.”

“You will. We’re having dinner tomorrow. I’ll text you the address.” He kissed my forehead, climbed his bike, and drove away.
