“I will. I’ll be there Monday.” She hangs up and tosses her phone across the room. It slides along the floor.

“What’s the matter,kukla?”

“He said the board wants to meet Monday to go over everything that happened tonight. Security called him and told him I was taken away over the shoulder of a Russian man. I’m sorry. I need to go.”

“No. You’ll stay here, and we’ll go together. I’ll go talk to him again.”

“No. Give me a chance to meet with the board and talk to him.” She stands up in all her naked glory. Her hair is disheveled around her shoulders. Her curvy hips sway as she moves, and my cock wakes up. But right now she needs her Master, not sex.

“I’ll take you back to Clare’s House.” I grab a pair of sweatpants out of a drawer and slip a T-shirt on. I pull out another set and hand them to her. She dresses in them after she goes into the bathroom for a few moments. I hate to let her go, but I can tell after everything she went through today, she’s overwhelmed. I also know that a full contingency of my soldiers is surrounding the shelter and will protect all the occupants.

I lead her out to my car and look at the hood where I took her only a few hours ago. I wanted to take her on my cross, but she isn’t ready for that. I’m glad she gave me some truths, but she didn’t give me everything. She didn’t tell me who the woman was, just her first name and that they’ve known each other for a long time. She did tell me about the threat and what the note said.

When we pull up to Clare’s, she sits and waits for me to come around and let her out of the car. Everything in my body rebels against letting her go, but I don’t want to push her away.

I kiss her softly on the lips. “This isn’t over, kukla,” I say against her mouth.

“Give me some time.”

“Not too long. I’m not a patient man.”

I watch her walk through the doors, and security watches both of us. When she enters the hallway to take the elevators up, she pauses and turns to look back at where I’m still standing. She lifts her hand and waves. I feel like she’s saying goodbye for longer than the weekend. I’m going to get her back. She turns away, and I see the sad smile on her face. Yep, she thinks she’s ending things, but little does she know I’m stubborn and I’m not ever letting her go.

It's been two weeks since I saw her. I’m tired of the distance. I have security still on her building even though there were more guards by the Tuesday after the attempted break-in. She sends me texts saying she’s busy, but today I’m tired of the no contact.

Mikhail is still doing research on the message board. When I told him what she said about the Triad, he found out the message board was theirs. He’s decrypted it, and I’m shocked that they still think Lennon is available. They’ve given up on Sparrow because of Andrei but not Lennon. Andrei has contacted the head of the Triad to discuss the issue, but I’m about tired of this.

I pull up to the Melody. As soon as I step into the lobby, Bronwyn is opening the door. He must have watched me pull up and get out of my car. It probably helps that I called and warned him I was going to stop by.

“Mr. Volkov,” he says. “I believe we need to discuss my vehicle you won’t return.”

“You mean your daughter’s car that I’m helping to repair?”

“Yes, that one. Thank you for helping with that.”

“Let’s take this conversation to a more private area.” I offer him the chance to not have me ream his ass here in the lobby of his casino. He must sense I’m not playing around and directs me to an office off the reservation desk. He clears the room and then turns to me.

“What do you want, Dmitri, because you can’t have her? She’ll lose Clare’s House if she doesn’t follow the rules.”

“How can they tell her who she can and can’t date? That’s not how it goes. If you don’t stop the threats, I’ll destroy you.”

“Don’t you threaten me.”

“Oh, I’ll threaten you all I want.” I advance on him, and he backs up. He might have been a hit man back in the day, but now he’s a has-been. I also have a good four inches on him plus a lot more bulk. He’s not as in shape anymore. “I’m going to date her, and you aren’t going to stop that. I can protect her with the Triad still being after her.”

“That’s just your way of trying to keep control of her.”

“Really? Then how come she’s still having issues. I have security on her. I know she’s had a couple more attempted break-ins that my men have stopped. I also know she’s had a tail on her. As soon as I see her, I’ll confirm what more is going on.”

“Does she?” He looks at me in shock.

“Yes.”

“Do you have a plan?”

“I do. Now, let me do what I need to do to protect her.”
