“Fine.” He gives in too easily, and I wonder what else is going on, but I leave to go to her.

My new plan is to take her around town and prove she’s mine. Tonight I have reservations for the both of us at Yelena’s. I’m going to expose her to some of my favorite foods and treat her special.

I push through the doors of Clare’s House and the receptionist recognizes me. She’s the same one from my first visit here. As I walk up to the desk, I hear her telling Lennon I’m here. When she hangs up, I’m not shocked by her response.

“I’m sorry, sir, but Ms. Bronwyn is in a meeting.”

I just smile at her and walk past her. The guards start to follow me, but I don’t care. I won’t make a scene here, but I’m not letting her push me away again. Her office door is open, and she sees me stomping toward her. She stands up, and I take her in. She’s dressed in a black sheath dress with a belt around the waist. She’s lost some weight in the couple of weeks we’ve been apart, and I’m glad I’m back to take care of her. Her hair is up in a bun with wisps at her temples. She is sexy as hell as she moves around her desk toward me in high fuck me heels. I cross the threshold into her office, and she smiles at me.

“Hello, Mr. Volkov,” she says very formally. When she closes her door, I turn around and press her into it.

“Ms. Bronwyn, you’re being so formal. What’s going on?” I look around the office, expecting a camera or something focused on us.

“I’ve been very busy getting everything back in line.”

“I know. But you’re done. We have reservations for dinner in an hour.”

“I can’t,” she says, but I press a finger to her lips.

“It’s a date to discuss your car.”

That stops her from declining. Her car has been at a shop of my choice even though her father tried to have it removed as soon as I dropped her off two weeks ago. He’s been making it very clear he doesn’t want me to be around her.

“I can’t.” She turns her eyes away from me, but I hold her chin until she finally focuses back on me.

“I already stopped by and told your father I’ve had enough of him. It’s my job to protect you.”

I pull her into my body, and she shivers against me.

“He said I can’t see you. He told the board I was out of control. The only way I kept my job was to tell them I wasn’t and prove it. I had security reinforced. There haven’t been any more attempted break-ins. I’ve been getting your flowers, thank you, but you can put your name on the card.” Her words give me pause.

“I’m not sending you flowers,kukla,” I growl.

I walk over to her desk where a large vase with long stem red roses is sitting. I pull out the card and see it’s not signed except for the words “See you soon.”

“Fuck,” I yell before I pull out my phone.

“Yeah,” Mikhail answers.

“Lennon has been getting regular deliveries from Buds and Stems. Find out who they are from.”

“On it. I’ll call you later.”

I hang up and turn toward her. She looks back at me with fear in her eyes. They are large and I see the tears. I move back toward her and pull her into my body.

“Come on,kukla. Get your purse.”

She moves away from me to her desk, where she opens a drawer and pulls out her bag. My hand lands on her lower back, and I direct her out of the room and to the lobby.

“I’ll be back later,” she tells the receptionist, and we are out on the sidewalk before she starts to bulk again. “Wait, I can’t do this. If someone is stalking me, I should maybe go back to the casino.”

“No. I have people on you at all times. You’re safe. I’ll make sure of it.”

“Are you sure?”

“It would be better if you’d come home with me and stay with me, but I’ll try to take this slow again.”

“Okay.”
