“Yes, ma’am.”

“What’s wrong with her?” I demand, and the woman shakes her head at me.

“I’m sorry, I can’t tell you unless she has you cleared.”

“I’m on there. What’s wrong?” Bronwyn asks.

“She removed you as her emergency contact. She did add her husband, but she said that at this time she doesn’t want him to have access to her records. She snuck out a back entrance before I could give her the discharge papers. I can’t give them to you because they’ll tell you her diagnosis. I know she was very concerned about you.” She points at me. “She said something about you needed your head in a good place. I didn’t understand.”

“I know why.”

“Find her.” I look to Mikhail, and he pulls out his laptop that’s always present. I notice Lyric does the same.

“Nothing from the gate guards, so she didn’t go to the house,” Andrei says.

I look toBabushka, who told me earlier that the puppy is in her car and her guards are taking care of it.

“I need clothes and to find my wife.”

“Yes, you do. The Triad general landed last week. He’s here in Vegas,” Lyric supplies. “Oh and”—she pauses and directs me away from everyone—“I have her medical record. Congratulations, Daddy.”

I stumble back. This is what I wanted, but she’s in danger and so is my child. I can’t even see straight, but I make my way out to the car with the others following behind.

“Babushka, you and Sparrow go to the house. Take the puppy too,” Andrei orders. “You, come with us.” He points to Lyric. “You, go away, suka. If you’d let my man back to be with his wife, she wouldn’t be running worried about him. Did she even know he was here?” he questions Bronwyn.

“No.” He shakes his head.

I want to deck him, but as angry as I am, I’d kill him. I’m saved from it when Lyric walks over to him and rears back her arm. She puts all her force into the punch, and we hear his nose crack, but so does her hand.

“Damn it, now we have to take you to a doctor,” Andrei says as he points to her.

“No. My sister is more important.” She looks back to Bronwyn. “All she ever did was want to please you. If she’s hurt, I’ll bury you. I can do it too. You hurt her every chance you could.”

We load up with me in the front seat. I’m vibrating with the need to fight or hit someone. Andrei directs Mikhail to take us to the office and condos so I can get dressed. While we drive, Lyric is typing away on her computer. She also explains that she wasn’t fighting with Lennon, but that Ainsley was upset and yelled a bit.

“I’ve called Alek. He’s on his way too.”

“I have her,” Lyric says as I step into my room to dress. “She’s at Clare’s House. She knew you’d look there. She’s not running from you, I don’t think. It’s more likely she’s running from Bronwyn.”

“Yeah, I agree. But even if she was running, I’d go after her. She’s mine.”

“What happened now?” Alek says when he steps into the room. He takes one look at Lyric and his body tightens up. “I know you,” he says before he’s next to her.

“Um, maybe,” she says softly as she blushes.

“Don’t you maybe me,krasota. I told you I wasn’t letting you go. You are mine. You gave me yourself. That makes you mine.”

When he called her beauty, her blush intensified, going down below her collar. He’s watching it with a predatory look. I’ve never seen any woman cause him to react like this. He’s always about his numbers.

“Alek, this is Lyric, Lennon’s sister. The hacker,” I clarify. “Now let’s go get my wife.”

He chuckles. “Oh, that explains so much now.”

He takes her hand even though she tries to pull it away, and we all make it out to the large SUV with several more vehicles behind us filled with soldiers and guards.
