“Give me your phone,” I bark at my second in command.

We’ve been dealing with this break-in at the main office. Now I’m wondering if it was a setup to get me away from the property so they could get Vittoria. I dial Dario’s number.

“Alarms went off at the estate. My guys are checking now.” He pauses, and I wait. “She was taken,” he answers. I’m glad we put special sensors around the estate that would alert him to a breach in security when I had to leave.

“How many dead?” I know my men would fight to protect.

“Six are gone.Nonnais okay. She was locked in her suite upstairs. I’m heading that way now. I need to double the guards here.”

“I’ll direct men from around the area to head that way. I’m getting on the helo.” I hang up and hand Douglas back his phone. “We need to go.”

We rush up the stairs to the helipad. I’m so angry, my body vibrates. I want to hit something or someone.

By the time we land, it’s been thirty minutes since she’s been gone from the property. It’s too long as far as I’m concerned.

Dario is waiting for me with a large map laid out on the hood of his vehicle. I run up to him and pull out my phone.

“They didn’t go toNonna’s. One of the guards who survived said they headed south from what he saw.” He looks at me and knows I have the means to find her. It’s how I found her before at the club. It’s how I’ve always kept an eye on her.

I pull up the app on my phone and see the tracker blinking on the screen. “They are heading to Mustafa.” We know he has a place just south of Bologna. “Get some guards. Let’s go.”

Dario holds back. “I can’t leave Luna. She’s due any day now.” I see the turmoil in his eyes before he drops his head.

“I’ll watch her and contact you if there is a problem.”Nonnawalks up. “This is just as much my fault. I should have told you Giada had talked to Vincenza a couple of times.”

“This isn’t your fault, but we need to get to her soon.”

“Go, Dario.” I hear the voice and realize he has Luna on speaker on his mobile. “I’m okay. I swear if a twinge happens, I’ll call.”

“No, you won’t, but okay.”

It only takes us another twenty minutes to get loaded up and armed. By the time we land in Bologna, the transport I set up is waiting for us. We landed as close as we could without giving away that we are here. We are about twenty minutes ahead of Vittoria arriving.

We formulate a plan. I have one of my team members get as close as he can to the property with a sound device so we can hear any conversations taking place. I had men leave directly from Milan as soon as I knew they were headed this way. It drives me crazy that I’m not going in with the entry team. I have to be behind the scope because my backup sniper was shot by Vincenzo when my estate was attacked.

chapter seven

Vittoria

I’m pushed to the floor on my knees. I put out both of my arms so if I fall forward, I don’t land directly on my stomach. I don’t know how far along I am, but I’m going to be very careful. I look up and see Mustafa sitting at a large desk in a corner of the room. He rises and moves in front of large floor-to-ceiling glass doors that go out to a veranda. He looks down at me and then over to where my parents stand.

“You took too long. Because of this, I can’t guarantee I won’t go to war with the Revellos. But you don’t care because you’ve been kicked from the board,” Mustafa says. I look down and take a deep breath, wondering what is going to happen next when I hear my mom.

“No. Please. No, don’t.”

A gunshot rings out, and I turn in time to watch as my father’s body falls lifeless to the floor. Shot between the eyes. I can’t control myself as I jump up and move toward them, worried he’s going to kill my mother next. She hasn’t been thebest, but she’s still my mom. Mustafa aims the gun at her, and she catches me and pulls me behind her. I look down at my father, and fear overwhelms me that this will be the end.

“Please stop. This isn’t worth it. I’m already married. I’m pregnant too,” I beg. “Please let us go.” My voice cracks as the gun held steady is aimed at us. I tell him the truth Spencer and I have been hiding from everyone. While we were in Monaco, we got married.

I bury my head into my mother’s chest, and she turns us, shielding me. I hear glass crack and a thump before men start shouting and more guns go off. My mother pulls us to the floor, and we crawl away from the fighting, trying to get somewhere safer.

I’m grabbed from behind, and another thwack sounds as I’m released. I look back and see the man has a hole between his eyes just like my father. We make it to the kitchen area and are hiding behind a large island as I hear my name yelled.

“Vittoria,” Dario shouts, but I’m too scared to respond back because I don’t want to give away our hiding place. “Vittoria, it’s safe,” Dario says, but the fear has both my mother and me clinging together.

“Princess.” I hear him, and that breaks through the fear.

“Spencer,” I say as loud as I can, but it’s enough.
