“No, Mama. I’ve been dead for years letting him control everything. It’s time I did what a mother is supposed to do and protect my child.” When she wraps me in a hug, it takes everything in me not to sob. I’ve wanted her to hold me for so long. I’ve wanted her to love me. I thought I wasn’t good enough for her. “I’m sorry, my bambola. Know that everything I’ve done, I’ve done for you. I didn’t expect this. He was supposed to let you marry whomever you wanted. But, as usual, he changed his mind.”

“She is marrying who she wants.” Spencer’s deep voice echoes through the room.

I spin around and see him standing there. He’s in all black, including black paint on his face. A long gun is strapped to his back. Other guns sit low on his hips, secured to his thighs, along with knives. I’ve never seen him look like this.

“You all three are coming with me. Now.” As he says that, two more men dressed similarly come into the room from the balcony.

“I can’t leave. He will kill my mama andNonna.” I walk to him, and he takes me in his arms, pulling me close. The feeling of being safe washes over me, almost taking me to my knees.

Spencer

Igot the message from Dario that there was more going on than we thought. He said Giada and Sofia were in danger too. He got a message from hisnonnathis afternoon, telling him that Vittoria had been beaten and she knew that Vincenzo had threatened his wife. I had to reconfigure the plan, and now I’m taking them all with me.

Seeing my princess in the beautiful gown and knowing why causes my body to riot. I want to storm downstairs and take out the wanker who thinks he can touch and take what is mine.

I watched the women for a few minutes before making my move and knew the situation was dire. Now instead of taking the women to Dario’s to hide out, I’m taking them to my place for a bit so they are safe. No one but Luna and Dario know I have the property, and it’s secure with a fence line patrolled by my men and dogs as of this afternoon.

“Come on,” I order the women. “I’ll keep you all safe. Besides, Vittoria will want you there when we marry tomorrow.”

My girl looks up at me, her mouth hanging open. I reach out with my gloved hand and push her chin up before I lean down and whisper in her ear. “I came inside you this morning. You could be carrying my baby already, and if not, you will be soon enough. I’m knocking you up so everyone knows you’re mine and can’t take you away from me.” She shivers, and I want to kiss her so bad. My earbud goes off. It’s one of my team members letting me know Vincenzo is on his way up.

“Load them up,” I order the other guys.

They each grab one of the women and lead them to the balcony. Because my princess’s room is in the front of the house, we have to use the side of the balcony to enter and escape. I had to pick an exterior lock that someone put on, trying to keep Vittoria in her room. I slip off my black jacket and wrap it around her. She slips her arms in, and I lift her up into my arms, making my way out of the room with her. I set her down toreinstall the lock on the door so her father doesn’t know we came out this way. When we get to the side of the balcony, her mother is already down on the ground and being led across the yard to the SUV waiting for us. Hernonnais next. I hear her father in the room as I take Vittoria over the side. I hold her against my body, and we hide in the bushes once we reach the ground as I hear guards start moving over the property.

“We need to run,” I whisper and throw her over my shoulder as I take off across the lawn. Thankfully, no one catches us.

My phone vibrates in my pocket.

Dario

Take Nonna and Giada to my place.

Me

No. They’ll be safer at my place for a couple of days. Tomorrow get the priest to the house.

Dario

Mustafa is threatening to kill Vincenzo. It seems Vincenzo told Mustafa they could take over the Revello family. Board is on my side. He’s being voted out. I need you to have a contingency sent to this house to protect it from them.

Me

On it.

“Vincenzo won’t rest until he gets us back. Especially me,” Giada says softly. “He told me if I ever left him, he’d kill me then himself.”

“Let him try. We will protect you now. As for him, it’d be the best for him because it sounds like he made promises to Mustafahe couldn’t keep,” I say as I make sure all three women are secured before we take off.

By the time we pull up to my estate, the three women in the back are chatting softly amongst themselves. Vittoria needed to know how her parents’ relationship really was. Vincenzo used fear, threats, and anger to keep Giada under his control. He told her no man would ever want her. He’d grab her and it would bruise, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that he started beating her. That’s why she would hide out in her room saying she was sick. Sofia had suspected, but Giada kept saying he’d never hurt her. Sophia couldn’t do anything about it without confirmation. It wasn’t until they moved into her home a couple of years ago that she realized how bad he was to her. Giada couldn’t go anywhere or speak to anyone without him saying she was cheating on him. She was staying with him just to protect Vittoria all these years. She felt her daughter deserved a father, even a bad one.

I shake my head because I know that even a bad father is a worthless one. He used all the women against each other. Vittoria was told if she stepped out of line, hernonnaor mama would be hurt. He told the others similar threats.

When we pull through the gates onto the estate, Vittoria is looking around.

“Wait, I know this place,” she says as she leans forward. I turn and smile at her.

“You do, princess. You deserved a castle and close to those you love,” I tell her, and she blushes as she looks at hernonna, who giggles.
