Which meant we were spending long hours together, sometimes into the night.

He didn’t like this, given my progressing pregnancy, but I’m not frail. I’m just eating for two and sleeping like a rock.

Besides, I like being around him. Like having him around the baby.

We’ve kept things innocent. At least innocent for us. We’ve gone on dates together, stolen kisses. At work, we try to be as good as possible, but sometimes I just need his embrace, his kiss.

We haven’t yet consummated our newfound relationship in the bedroom.

However, my body grows more eager for that every day. Pregnancy has made me horny beyond belief. I haven’t yet gotten the courage to ask Orlie to help fulfill that need for me. I want to be sure of him. Of us.

And the way he’s stepped up, shown me how involved he can be when he doesn’t think I’ve tricked him into fathering a child that isn’t his, well…I definitely think I’m almost there.

In fact, after this meeting, we’re jetting off to my six-month checkup. Together. This will be the first time he’ll be in the room with me. See the baby in action. I don’t know who is more excited. Me or him.

Or the baby.

Ever since I woke up this morning, My Teensy has been doing backflips. Just knowing that today is a big day. For lots of reasons.

Sure, there’s the demonstration for our executives, which will inform us if Orlie can expand the educational sector of Wynters Group. More importantly for My Teensy, though, this is the day Daddy gets to see them in action.

Daddy. Orlie is going to make a good one. This isn’t something I’ve decided. It’s a fact.

He talks about the baby all the time. To me, of course. At work, people don’t yet know he’s the father of my baby. Except for Trevor, of course, who ecstatically took the two of us to dinner to give us advice. Orlie took notes. Literally! There’s a note on his phone for every piece of advice he’s gotten from his father or mine. Or my sisters. Or his friends.

Part of loving me is loving my family. And Orlie has stepped up, joined us for family events and meals, taken private conversations with my father which left him completely pale by the time they were over because of how stressed he was.

Dad has told me that Orlie is still earning his trust, but…he’s doing a good job so far.

“The more we can focus resources on projects like this, the more accessible we can make them. Not all kids with learning differences have the backing of schools like Leon Prep. I know to many, accessibility has no place in conversations where the bottom line is concerned, but…”

I gesture to Lila who is engaging with her teacher virtually, a big smile on her face.

“I mean, come on. Wynters Group is in no place of depriving all children of the capacity to learn.”

Orlie comes up to meet me at the front of the room, a kind smile on his face. “You can join us tomorrow for a full-lengthpresentation on the logistics of funding an education wing. For now, though, I’d like to thank Lila and her parents for coming out here today for the demonstration. Kira and I will be here for further questions as the demo continues.”

Orlie and I post up to the side while Lila continues to explore the virtual world of her classroom. As some of the execs come over to us and ask questions, Orlie continuously checks his watch. He’s anxious about the appointment. I know because the first text I received from him this morning was, “I’m so nervous,” and I know he wasn’t talking about the presentation. He goes to presentations every day.

How many times do you get to go to a six-month checkup for your unborn baby?

Potentially only once.

Orlie paces back and forth, arms crossed over his chest. His sleeves are rolled up to his elbows because he was getting hot even though the doctor’s office is perpetually cold.

“What’s taking so long?” he asks.

“Doctors take a long time. You know this,” I say with a chuckle.

He huffs and continues pacing.

“Hey, come here,” I say, holding out my hand.

Orlie takes it and leans on the edge of the examination table where I’m sitting. I take his hand and put it over the orb of my belly. I can see the relief immediately hit him, shoulders relaxing, jaw unclenching.

“Everything’s okay.”

“We don’t know that.”
