I pull away from her. “Oh god, I’m sorry, do I stink? I came right here and I should have showered, but I couldn’t wait another second, and I –”

“No, I like it.” She kisses the hinge of my jaw. “Smell so good.”

My eyes flutter shut. I hadn’t even given way to fantasies about the needs Kira might ask me to fulfill.

One thing at a time, Orlie…I won’t pressure her or rush her. But on the off-chance she needs some release, I wouldn’t hesitate to step up for the job.

“Besides, I’m the one dressed like a witch.”

I hug her tighter, laughing. “The sexiest witch I’ve ever seen.”

“No, I’m not. You’re lying.”

“Are you kidding? This glorified garbage bag is…” She’ll think I’m joking, but all the fabric just triggers the want in me to rip it off of her. “I love it. Feels like this –” I drop my hand to her waist. “Is just for me.”

Kira tilts her head back, smiling at me. I’ve craved this smile for months.

“Itisjust for you.”

I kiss her cheek. “For us.”

With time.

“Yes. For us.”

Long after Kira and I part, my arms echo with the feeling of her. And when I lay down for bed that night, Kira joins me, if only in my imagination.

I will do anything to make sure in the future, however distant, Kira lays down next to me every night. Not just in my imagination.

KIRA

“Wow! It’s so real!”

I grin as I watch the little girl in the wheelchair reaching out to grab something in the VR classroom system.

“It’s like I can touch it!”

Her parents watch on the edge of their seats with smiles on their faces.

“Try moving around. Just use the controller in your hand,” I explain.

The little girl presses the joystick in her right hand, her mouth hanging open. Then, she gasps in delight. “It’s like I’m really in the classroom!”

Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.

I rest my hands on top of my belly which is now at a point it’s impossible to ignore. Six months pregnant. Only three more to go. My baby is going to be here before I know it and I’m not sure I’m ready.

Behind me is the executive team of Wynters Group. We’ve invited Lila, the little girl, and her parents, to give a demonstration of the Virtual Classroom my team and I have designed for Leon Prep.

I glance up at the screen which is a live feed of what Lila is seeing. “This is our next step in accessibility. If it can happen in classrooms, it can happen anywhere,” I explain.

From the back corner, I see Orlie leaning up against the wall, his arms over his chest. He’s smiling curiously at me.

My stomach drops at the sight.

We’ve been working closely together for the past two months, putting the finishing touches on the Leon Prep project. With my new office on the executive floor, Orlie is able to pop in more frequently and, eventually, became invaluable to the project.
