I should take things slow, not take advantage of her inebriated state, but my Boy Scout days are more than long over. “Allie, what if I told you that I liked you too? Do you believe that?”

She smiles widely. “Oh, sure, Nick Montgomery. I bet you say that to all the girls, every single one of them. Is that what you said to the blonde at the gym? Whatever you said to her, she liked it a lot. You use that line on all the girls?”

And now I completely understand. “No, and we can talk about what happened at the gym tomorrow, but tonight I’d like to know more of your secrets,” I tell her.

“Well, I don’t have that many. Oh, wait, I have a good one. I love to go to the club and get my ass spanked. But shhh. You didn’t hear that from me. You wanna go, Nick?”

“Oh, I’d love to take you to the club and play, but somebody’s had way too much to drink tonight,” I tell her while my cock enlarges uncomfortably against the seam of my pants at the thought of taking her there and pleasuring her with my dominance.

Allie gasps. “Were you drinking? I thought you were the DD. Wait, maybe I should drive, Nick. Seriously, we don’t want to get in a wreck. Do you know how many crash victims I’ve taken care of? Pullover now! I can drive this thing.”

“I’m not the one who’s been drinking. You’re in no condition to drive or give consent at a club.”

“What? I feel fine, and who let me drink that much anyway? Don’t you know there’s a two-limit rule? You’re not supposed to have more than two drinks if you’re going to take me to the club. How am I supposed to go now!” she huffs.

“You might have to settle for a spanking at home,” I tell her, pulling right up to the bottom of the stairs to her apartment instead of the parking lot.

Trent and Liam have pulled in behind us, and I toss my keys at Liam, who’s walking toward me. “I’m going to get her upstairs,” I say, barely keeping her from falling out of the door and strangling herself with the seat belt as she opens the door and leans against it.

Trent laughs. “Alright, let us know if you need anything. We’ll be here until six a.m., and then we’ll switch with the day crew and go get some sleep.”

Allie settles in her seat and tries to go to sleep. “Come on, beautiful,” I coax, unbuckling her belt and lifting her into my arms. She may be little, but her body has to be eighty-five percent pure muscle.

She gazes up at me with widened, hazy, and intoxicated green eyes. “You think I’m beautiful, Nick?”

I smile down at her and nod. “I think you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

“We don’t have to go to the club, really. You could spank me at home, okay, Nick?”

Chapter Ten

Allie

A dull throbbingache wakes me. I reach for my phone, pat around the covers, searching, give up, and then open my eyes to find it lying on the nightstand beside me, along with my water bottle and a dish with two capsules and a little note that says “Take These. It will help.”

I sit up a little and take them, swallowing the ice-cold water until I quench my thirst and the cottonmouth has somewhat eased. I’m still fully dressed underneath the blankets, but someone removed my socks and boots. I push the covers back and try to get out of bed, but the room spins. “Oh, shit.” One or five too many beers.

It’s a slow trip to the kitchen, but the smell of frying bacon calls to my growling stomach. “A bodyguard who cooks.” I admire Nick’s physique in a pair of workout pants that emphasize the muscled ass and the tight t-shirt that stretches across his back. “You put me to bed last night?”

“Somebody had to,” Nick responds, flipping over four pieces of bacon.

“I was more than capable of putting myself to bed. I wasn’t that drunk.” I walk around the counter to pour a cup of coffee from the pot on the counter next to him.

Nick looks serious, not at all his playful self. He tilts my chin so my eyes meet his. “You’re going to eat, and then we’re going to have a conversation about us, about yesterday, last night, and about what I expect going forward,” Nick directs, locking my gaze.

My mind is still scattered, trying to piece together fragments of conversations from last night, but it’s all blurred together with beer, line dancing, and more beer. I just need food—well, food and caffeine, and for these headache pills to kick the hell in quick. Oh, and water. The nurse in me should know to hydrate. Hell, the nurse in me should know better than to drink Smithwick’s on an empty stomach or by the pitcher.

Nick sets a plate of scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon in front of me and then begins opening up cupboard after cupboard.

“What are you looking for?” I take a long cold drink of the water from my bottle before taking a bite of toast.

“Blender. You eat, and I’ll make you a Bloody Mary.”

“Another drink is probably the last thing in the world that I need.”

“It’s a bodyguard secret. Chase’s house manager, Gaby, makes them for some of the group when they’ve been off shift and letting off some steam. They work, but only if you have the right ingredients.” Nick opens up drawers and cupboards, pulling out this and that for his concoction. When he has everything he needs and has mixed it to his satisfaction, he brings the large glass of tomato juice mixture to me. “Drink up. You’ll be surprised how much a little hair of the dog helps.”

His heavy-handedness should turn me off, but instead, it sends a shiver of anticipation down my spine. I take a tentative sip, and it’s not half bad for a mixed drink. “I have to admit. I’ve never once had one of these things. I was always going to try one, but I never ended up ordering one for this reason or that. It’s quite good.”
