“Glad you like it,” he replies, pouring himself a cup of coffee and taking a chair across from me.

“You eat, and I’ll talk,” Nick says.

That’s not hard to do, because the fluffy egg with spinach, peppers, onions and cheddar dish is far better than anything I’ve had in a very long time. I take a bite of my bacon, crisp and cooked to perfection. “This is really good, Nick.”

He ignores my heartfelt compliment, with other things clearly on his mind. “First of all. I wasn’t flirting with the lady at the gym. The bar she selected to lift was way too heavy. She almost dropped it. I grabbed it before it could fall on her, set her up with a better size, and then made sure she was going to be able to lift it without any assistance after that. I helped her out, knowing Liam and Trent had their eyes on you. I looked up, and you were heading out. It was nothing more than me being a decent person. End of story,” Nick states.

“And you’re telling me why?” I ask, popping the last corner of toast into my mouth before picking up my coffee and realizing with embarrassment that I’ve managed to devour half of my breakfast.

“Because you stormed out of the gym and didn’t give me a chance to explain yesterday.”

“So you’ve told me the story, but I still don’t know why.”

“You wanted me off your detail and were intentionally rude last night.”

“I’m not accustomed to answering to people, and you have to admit that you are exceptionally high-handed, and maybe you had it coming,” I tell him.

“And then last night, you told me that you liked me,” Nick informs me, breaking into a big smile.

“I wouldn’t do that!”

His bright blue eyes shine with amusement. “You most certainly did, but I wasn’t really supposed to tell you that. Shhh…” Nick states, placing a finger over his lips. “You told me in the strictest of confidence.”

Oh my god. Pieces of the conversation are coming back, little by little, twisting and turning and locking into place. “It had nothing to do with you.”

He nods. “And now you’ve just earned a spanking, which I plan to give you before the day is through, because although you asked for one last night, you weren’t sober enough to consent, or to remember it.”

Everything south clenches at his words, but this is Nick, and I don’t date, and I don’t do relationships. “Wait, I don’t know what you think after last night, but I’m not going to lie over your lap and take a spanking in my kitchen or my bedroom or anywhere in this apartment with you.”

“You’ll take a spanking because you earned it. I already warned you what happens when you lie to me. I don’t make idle promises, nor do I need the walls of a club to deliver on that promise.”

The deep, authoritative timbers of his voice send a shiver down my spine. He knows about the club and that I like to get spanked, and “Oh my God! What else did I tell you about that?”

“Ahh, now I have your attention.”

“Tell me,” I prompt, taking another bite of breakfast because better to know what he’s already privy to than to guess.

His eyes squint as he observes me eating. “Your cheeks are pink, and your breath is shallow. You’re embarrassed and yet turned on at the same time. It’s intoxicatingly erotic.”

I can feel every neuron in my body humming, alive with energy and desire, far surpassing even the rush I get from being at the club. There’s something about this man that just draws me to him and makes me want to do exactly as he asks.

“There’s no sense fighting it, Allie. The attraction between us is too strong. We both have something the other craves. We’ll talk about all of those things, but first, I’d like to see just how compatible we are. Come and sit on my lap.”

That voice, that soft-spoken command, is all that it takes to break through my defenses and go to him. He takes my hand, guides me onto his lap, places his arm around my back, and cradles me close while pulling my breakfast plate in front of us. “First, you need to finish eating,” he says, picking up a piece of the bacon between two fingers and holding it up to my mouth.

I should fight this, but over a month's worth of dreams haven’t been this erotic, and the desire to do as he asks far outweighs the reasons to flee. I take a tentative bite and chew the flavorful meat.

Nick runs his nose along the sensitive shell of my ear while I’m chewing. “I knew over a month ago how good we would be together.”

The shiver that runs down my spine goes straight to my center. “Another bite, Allie,” he says, lifting the succulent meat to my lips.

I savor the morsel, and then another as he feeds me in a peaceful silence that needs no words to convey what the other is feeling. The energy between us is palpable, taking the place of words, connecting us on a different and much more profound level. When my breakfast is gone, he turns my lips toward him, wipes a smudge from my mouth, and tilts my chin. “I’ve wanted to do this since the very first time I saw you,” Nick says, holding my back firm with his arm while kissing my lips. He doesn’t coax or tease but takes what he wants, and everything below ignites in a wet pool of need with the passionate exchange.

When he lets me up for air, I’m breathless and needy. “Stand up and remove your pants, Allie.”

I feel my cheeks heat, and my heart races with excitement and embarrassment. A myriad of emotions is swirling around, but the need to obey is strong. I unzip my jeans slowly, settling into my need.

His eyes watch, darkening with desire.
