His eyes widen. “I didn’t know it was that late. I guess time flies when you’re having fun. Speaking of fun, how was your time with your parents?”

I can't help but let out a deep sigh. "It was amazing, actually! We ate, laughed, and talked most of the day. I didn’t realize how much I missed them. It was nice to be surrounded by family, but now I’m all caught up on family business and readyto shower and rest." I peek around Wayne and gesture toward his guests. “Is everything alright with them? They were looking at Eddie and Jeremiah a little crazy when I came in. Did I miss something?”

“We were just talking about plans for my bachelor’s party, andouch!”

I poke him in the chest playfully. “You’d better not be trying to do anything that will get you in trouble at that bachelor’s party.”

He gently grips my jaw and pulls me close to him. He leans down and steals a kiss. “Do you think I would do something to mess up what we have the night before our wedding? Hell no.” His hands trail down my backside to my waist, dragging me within an inch of him. His huge hands travel lower until he is gripping my backside. “I want this big, juicy thing forever,” he murmurs against my cheek.

“We have a crowd?” I say, noticing Eddie walking toward us.

“Let the woman breathe. She’s only been in the house five seconds, and you already have her pinned against a wall,” Eddie fusses, shaking his head.

“Shut up, big bro. I learned this from you.”

I notice the moment Eddie tenses at the reference to how he used to detain Alexandria when she walked into a room. It’s the same moment Wayne realizes what he’s just said and blows an uneasy breath against my face.

“Ed—”

“It’s all good,” Eddie cuts off what I know was about to be an apology from Wayne and asks, "How did your day go, sis?" He reaches an arm out, offering an innocent hug of his own.

I maneuver myself out of Wayne’s grasp and hug my soon-to-be, big brother-in-law. “I had a good time with the family. I’ll have to do it again soon.”

“Glad to hear that. I’m going to head into the kitchen and speak to Mom before I leave.” Eddie excuses himself from the room.

Wayne and I watch him walk toward the kitchen. “I shouldn’t have said that,” Wayne says for my ears only.

I meet Wayne’s sympathetic brown gaze. “You meant no harm, and he knows it. That’s why he cut you off. But what’s up with him? He seems a little different today, and when I walked in, it looked like he and Jeremiah were having another standoff.”

Wayne exhales. “We’ll talk about it later. Let me get rid of the rest of the guys, and we’ll empty the house so we can be alone.”

“I’d like that,” I say. A full day away from home and around my family was wonderful, but now I want to kick back, relax, and be cuddled up in our bedroom alone.

Holding my hand, Wayne goes further into the den and announces, "The queen is home, so we’ll catch up next month for the bachelor’s party.”

Dilan sniggers. “He’s putting us out. He’s so whipped.”

Nodding, Rich agrees. “Yep.”

“It’s kind of admirable,” Jeremiah inserts.

“Hope it lasts,” Mark tries to whisper but is obviously not a skilled whisperer.

Terrance removes his attention from the game on the TV and notices the guys readying to leave. “The party’s over?”

Wayne pulls me closer to his side, kneading the exposed flesh at my waistline. “Yeah, we’re calling it a night, big guy.”

Terrance bites down on his lip as if remembering something delicious. “Guess that means I can finally get back to my baby.”

“He’s whipped too,” Rich tells Dilan.

“Like butter,” Mark chimes in.

Terrance pumps his hips in a stroking motion. “Yeah, but I’m doing the whipping tonight. Something neither of you can do from the doghouse,” he jousts.

“Ouch!” Mark grabs his chest, feigning being hit.

Jeremiah chuckles. “Better leave Terrance alone. He’s been on one since he came back from Alabama. Went down there and got some of that country loving.”
