“Speaking of Jess.” Emery turns to me. “I saw you two talking last weekend at the fundraiser. What did you chat about?” He sounds deliciously curious.

I gnaw on my lower lip and want to tell him what Jess said about her mom taking advantage of him.Maybe he doesn’t see it.

Should I try to protect him? It’s arrogant for me to think a genius CEO doesn’t have a handle on his personal life.

“Your daughter is protective of you.”

Emery throws his head back and laughs.

“Nice save, sweetheart.”

I grab his tie, pulling our faces close.

“Are you and your wife—”

“Ex-wife.”

“Are you andMrs. Austinsharing a hotel room this weekend?”

“No.” He narrows his eyes at me. “I’m not sharing a room with her.”

“Where are you staying?”

“You don’t trust me?”

“You promised you were mine this month. Just checking.”

The limo stops in front of Ford’s building.

“You’re right.” Emery strokes my cheek. “So go upstairs and pack a bag. I’ll wait. I want you to come with me.”

My heart spikes at the offer, but I worry about a weekend of tension with his ex. She couldn’t handle me being in his office for five minutes, and it brought out a very aggressive side of Emery.

I don’t want to ruin Jess’s weekend, and besides, I have a date with Ash tomorrow night, which I won’t throw in Emery’s handsome face.

“I appreciate the offer. But I’ll stay here. And miss you.”

“I’ll miss you, too. Now that we’ve crossed that line, we’re going to have fun next week whenI get back.”

“You said something about getting together on Sunday.”

“God, yes. I want that.” His eyes stray to the building. “But I can’t fuck you in one of Ford’s guest bedrooms.”

I laugh and picture Ford wandering by my room hearing his friend moan my name while he’s coming inside me.

“You said your other girls lived in your house.”

“Does that bother you? Having sex with me where other women have been?”

“No. That’s part of dating.” Although I doubt any man I dated or been with had women waiting all day to be fucked.

Month after month.

Going to Emery’s house puts me on the same level as those women. Women he bought, used, and let go only to move on to the next auction with a fresh woman.

“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” His voice goes tense.

“Nothing. You have to go. I don’t want to keep you from Jess.” His limo double parks out front, and I lean for a kiss, loving how easily I broke his no-kissing rule. “Call me Sunday and we’ll figure it out.”
