I know he’s right, but it still hurts to hear it said out loud.

“He’s a CEO and doesn’t want it getting out that he’s sharing a woman with two men who also fuck,” Ash adds his spin, sounding bitter.

“I get you’re scared, Ash.” Ford’s fighting a war on two fronts. “I don’t know what your family did to brainwash you, but no one gives a fuck anymore.”

“Low blow, counselor.”

“I didn’t hear you say no to me blowing you, Dr. Ives.”

The room goes silent, and eyes fall on me.

I’m sitting in the chair rocking.

“Sugar?” Ford lowers in front of me.

“I’m never getting my designs back, am I?”

“Ford will get them back.” Ash cuddles me from behind.

“This is all getting too complicated.” I shake everything away.

“Falling in love usually complicates things,” Ford deadpans.

My eyes slip closed. I can see him being in love with Ash. They have history, and Ford isn’t the kind ofman to deny his feelings.

If he wants something, he grabs it.

Right now, it’s Ash. And me, but I’m confused.

“Can we just go back to what we all originally agreed to?” I can’t bear to fall for something else I’ll never have.

TWENTY-THREE

FORD

The hurt in Bernie’s eyes destroys me.

“It’s late.” Ash comforts her. “You should get some sleep.”

The possessive fire in his eyes sets me back.

“You’re right. I’m tired.” She runs a hand through her hair. “I’ll see you at the concert tomorrow night, Ash. Text me where it is, and I’ll meet you there.”

“No. You’re my date. I’ll pick you up.” Ash kisses her tenderly, and it wakes my dick back up. “Did Victoria send you those dresses she’s making?”

“No.” She shakes her head. “I’m picking them up tomorrow afternoon.”

“I’ll drive you to Brooklyn,” I say.

“I’m spending a few hours at the Guide Dog Institute and then going to pick up the dresses.”

My heart stings at how she’s pulling away from me.

How Ash looks at me with disgust.

A few moments later, I’m alone in my living room.

What the hell just happened?
