“I know Ash was hesitant about bringing a woman into our bed. If I had any lingering doubt that Ash and I would be exclusive this time around, you tore at those seams.” I tug on her dress, loving that she made this one herself. “Don’t ever think we’re compromising to include you.” I smile down at Bernadette’s big brown eyes that melt my fucking heart.

“I’m so overwhelmed and flattered by all this attention. And let’s face it, envied to beopenlyseeing all three of you.”

I still don’t know if Emery will go the distance, and I have to face that Ash and I might have to heal Bernadette’s heartbreak if Emery backs out. We have what it takes to take care of her.

“Ash is still struggling with being openly bisexual, and that is my problem to solve for him.”

“It’s ours if it will be all four of us.” She holds my hands, soft, buttery skin that I need on my cock as soon as possible.

“Ash’s family is brutal and ruthless. They’ll goafter you. I won’t let anyone hurt you or him. That part is sensitive.”

I have to find something I can pin on them as a bargaining chip to stay the fuck out of our lives.

“Now talk to me about the case.” Bernadette levels me with a stern gaze. “What’s going on?”

“For one, I need you to promise you won’t tell Ash or Emery what I’m about to tell you.”

“Secrets.” A frown sharpens her lips. “I guess we’ll each have them from time to time.”

“Two people in a relationship can keep a mountain of secrets. But this one is Mt. Everest, sugar.”

“I’m honored you trust me.” She closes a fist over her heart.

“I do trust you.” I moved her into my duplex after knowing her for two days, and fucked her after three. But I lied when I said I checked her out. “I didn’t take this case just to help you.”

“Like you said, you just met me. Then why?”

“Revenge,” I drawl in an icy tone.

“Against Michael?” She stands up, alarmed. “Did you know him? Are you going to mess this up on purpose, so he rots in jail? I’ll never get my designs.”

I hold her against my chest, hating how she’s shaking.

“Sugar, no. Not at all. Look at me.” I stare into her eyes, their dark depth pulling me in. “Revenge against the prosecutor working the case.”

“Oh.” She relaxes. “Wait, I recall you saying you’ve slept with prosecutors. Did you screw the one assigned to Michael’s case?”

“No, I didn’t. But he’s tangled in this story.”

“Then who? Ford, what does this have to do with the case? I’m on the edge of my seat.”

“When I pushed Ash too far about being open with our relationship, he left me.” My throat painfully tightens. “He started seeing another man. A man who is so far in the closet...”

“Ash chose someone he thought his secret would be safe with.” Her statement, not formed as a question, shows how level-headed she is in assessing the man I love.

“Yeah,” I scoff. “It killed me, though. And I know the guy was pursuing him behind my back with promises of a hot secret affair.”

“Who?” Bernadette’s eyes are peeled.

“The prosecutor assigned to Michael’s case.” I squeeze her hand, expecting her to explode in anger that I was using her.

At first, I was.

“Sugar, I met you five minutes before I found that out. Ash and I were together for almost a year. I was hurting and sick to my stomach without him. You weren’t part of that equation. Yet.”

She thinks about that and then stares at me.

“That’s why you won’t let Michael plead.”
