My girl.

My forever girl.

Who I will have to share if this becomes real.

“Is it okay if I use this bathroom to brush my teeth?” Bernadette asks from the doorway as I step out of the shower.

She looks fucking stunning in a white eyelet nightgown with little winged sleeves. Her breasts move seductively underneath. It’s opaque enough for me to see her figure when the light hits her.

“Of course.” I towel myself off. “When you’re here, this place is yours.”

She stops brushing. “What?”

Smiling, I peck my lips to her forehead. “I want you to be comfortable here.”

I give her space and get my head together, as I drag on a pair of loose boxers to sleep in.

Pushing the covers on my king-size bed aside, I’m suddenly frozen.

“Emery?” She stands there, her hands twisting like she’s nervous. “Are you sure this is okay?”

“Of course, my love.”

Smiling, she gets into bed.

She’s opposite my side where I load up anightstand with all my shit, my watch, my phone on a special charger, water, my blood pressure medication, and tissues.

“I’ve not shared a bed with anyone since Warren,” I say, nestling her under the covers with me.

“Really?” She sounds surprised.

“I will never lie to you or make false promises.” I caress her shoulders. “I put the other women I bought into a bedroom of their own so I could keep my distance. With you...”

“With me?”

“Our distance burns me. I love seeing you every day in the office, but I can’t keep you as an assistant forever.”

“I’m not much of one, even if I didn’t have my designs back.” She props up on one elbow to face me.

“I just love having you close.” My hand strays to her smooth cheek. “My work has always been my personal space. Warren never came to the office. Having you there these past few weeks has knocked some of the bricks loose in my wall. With you, I can combine who I really am and the lover I need to be.”

“I really like both sides of you.” She kisses my fingers playfully.

“Like? Are we thirteen?” My voice gets deep.

“You know what I mean.”

“Do youknow what I mean?” I grip the back of her head with more force than either of us expected. “What I’m telling you?”

“Does the answer have anything to do with why you brought me to your house in the Hamptons? I’ve not even been to your house in Manhattan.”

“Did I not make that clear?”

“I just don’t want to make the wrong assumptionagain,” she says with a yawn.

“Me, too.” I press my lips to her forehead, and when she turns around, I pull her body flush against me. “Sleep, my love.”
