If only I could. If only I could look at Thomas?fucking?Hilbert and not feel the bile ride in my throat. If only I could feel his presence and suppress the hate and thirst for his blood as an accessory to my father’s name.

If I turn back on my word now, I will feel nothing but shame. That’s why I look away from Rebecca.

Seeing those beautiful eyes and the promise of seeing them more often is enticing…but not just quite enough. I need to kill Thomas.

“Ah…isn’t this lovely?” Thomas’s voice booms over the silencing blades of the chopper as its engine shits off. I guess I might have one more witness to worry about?the pilot.

Although, if the pilot could remain in the chopper all through the time we’re here, I could kill Thomas away from his line of sight.

That way, I could dispose his body into the water before anyone finds him and claim that he jumped.

He’s just been through a divorce. He might have been going through a major depressive phase for all the world cares.

Before they’d find his body, sea creatures would have stripped off too much flesh for them to discern a bullet or knife wound.

Everything is going according to plan.

“The company that sold this rig doesn’t understand the value of assets.” Thomas completes his statement.

“Perhaps you should be more grateful for the fact that we just saved the company billions in ROI of building and installing a new rig.” Rebecca counters his statement, her voice brewing obvious disgust.

If I was allowed to talk, my voice would convey the same.

“Whatever. Go on kissing your sex slave, would you? Let me have my moment,” Thomas replies, taking a huge breath.

“What did you j?” Rebecca starts to advance offensively towards him, but I pull her by the arm.

Now is not the time,I communicate with my eyes.

She understands instantly and drops it.

I’ll handle everything about Thomas myself. Every bad thing he has ever done, to Rebecca, me, and any other person…today is the day of retribution.

Vengeance will bare its grueling, yellowed teeth and clamp around his neck. I will make sure of that.

Thomas continues exploring the rig. I can tell that, yes, he’s a little hurt from seeing Rebecca and I kiss. It’s not because he still loves her, but because it’s a bruise on his ego.

Another one satisfies a woman he thought he had destroyed.

I continue feeling Rebecca up, though. It’s for a reason. I need him to be too sick to the stomach of our love and decide to just leave our presence to make it stop.

My arms are around her waist, and we talk about everything but the reason she’s here. It’s a nostalgic moment for the both of us, reminding me of our late-night chats, and the time we were in the amusement park.

Flashes of images come to me, about moments that Rebecca and I have the potential to spend of I don’t kill Thomas and must leave the US as a fugitive. It would be beautiful. She’s such an intelligent conversationalist, I’m sure there’ll be hardly dull moments with her.

However, this is just one of the many sacrifices I must make.

Sure enough, Thomas can’t take the insult any longer.

“I’m going to the other side to inspect the pipe deck. The previous operators said something about it being faulty. Don’t come along if you’re going to be talking about rollercoaster rides,” he huffs and makes a hasty retreat from all the sap.

He has no idea that his retreat is far from over. I can almost feel Rebecca begin to palpitate. The desperate blues in her eyes dart from corner to corner but are fixed on mine.

That’s when she pulls out a slip of paper and pushes it into my hands.

Not now, Rebecca.I’ll read this later…once the deed is done.

I stay with her for a while, mostly to wait for Thomas to get far enough, before going after him. It’s a hard goodbye, eventually.
