A strained chuckle comes across and my gut tightens.

“Some of my brothers are going to be meeting us in a few minutes to ride with us the rest of the way back. I need to take all of you to the clubhouse.”

I grit my teeth at the thought of going to the clubhouse. It’s Friday. I don’t want to be around club bunnies.

“Why the fuck do we need to go to the clubhouse? And don’t give me that fucking ‘it’s club business’ line because if you do, you and Patch might as well go ahead to meet up with your brothers by yourself.”

He sighs and I can tell he’s debating on whether to tell me the truth or not.

“I can’t tell you the details right now. It’s a conversation that all of you need to hear. Not to mention not a good one to discuss while most of us are on bikes.”

“Dragon…” My jaw’s starting to hurt from grinding my teeth together as I somehow manage to keep from pulling over right now and demanding that he explains. He sighs again.

“There’s been a threat… against you specifically. And a warning for the twins.”

Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck, fuck, fuck! If Scott is behind this, I am going to enjoy skinning the bastard. Alive.

“Talk to me, Spitfire.”

“We’ll go to the clubhouse. For now. But you better keep me involved, Dragon. If there’s anything pertaining to my safety or the twins’ safety, we need to know. None of this ‘club business’ bullshit.”

“I’ll do what I can, but it will be up to my brother ultimately. Your dad is already there.”

“Your brother?”

“Yeah, he’s the Pres.”

“Fuck my life,” I mutter to myself, but judging by the sigh I hear, he heard it. “I’m gonna let the others know the change in plans. I can already hear the rumble of more bikes in the distance, so I want them to know before they get here. Especially Alexei, since he’s in the lead.”

“Sounds good. And just so you know, we’ll be going straight to mine and my brother’s house on the compound instead of the clubhouse. No reason to have this conversation around loose ears.”

Well, at least that’s one worry off my shoulders.

“Got it.”

His head bobs in my mirror before he hangs up without saying goodbye, and I quickly dial up the group.

“FYI, more Steel Archangel’s will join us in a bit for the remainder of our trip. We won’t be heading home, but rather to their clubhouse. Or more precisely, the President’s house, which is on the compound.”

“What the fuck for?” Sasha bites out.

“There’s been a recent threat… against me. And a warning for Alexei and Sasha.”

Silence meets my ears, but I can practically see the fumes rolling off the twins.

“Fine, but I don’t like this,” Alexei grits out.

“I don’t either, but we need to know what they know.”

“Do you think they’ll tell you? You know how they are with club business,” Travis says, and I sigh.

“I said something similar to Dragon when I demanded at least we three are kept in the loop since it’s regarding our safety. He said he’d try, but it’s ultimately up to his brother.”

“Who’s his brother?” Ethan asks.

“… The President.”

“Fuck,” Sasha mutters.
