“The clearance just came through because we pulled some strings to get them in the same room upstairs. That way she’s close in case we need her to work her magic for him again. He’ll have a long road of healing ahead of him, and he’ll need all the support he can get. Plus, we figured it would be easier for you guys to post your guards.”

As I pick up Levi’s few things, my heart breaks again when I see her cut ripped to shreds and her engagement ring all bloody. When I have everything gathered, I walk out to the nurse’s station. I can at least fix one thing right now.

Seeing Allison is still out here, I go straight to her instead of the bimbos trying to flirt with me.

“Hey Allison, is it possible to get some Q-Tips or something so I can clean off the blood from myfiancée’sengagement ring?”

She laughs but turns it quickly into a cough. Judging by her slightly shaking shoulders, she knows exactly who I was saying that for.

“Yup, head on over here,” she says as she gestures to a sink behind the counter that’s near where she was starting a moment ago. She reaches up into the cupboard and pulls down a few supplies for me.

“Do you want me to clean it for you? Wouldn’t be my first one I’ve cleaned off.”

I looked around but noticed there were only a couple of other rooms being used back here. “You’re not too—”

Her and a couple other nurses quickly shush me, cutting me off from saying ‘busy’. I guess the superstition is true about not wanting anyone to say that phrase.

I clear my throat. “Ah, yes, if it’s okay.” She nods, trying not to laugh at me, and takes Spitfire’s ring from my outstretched hand. As I stand there, I realize we haven’t checked in with the guys in a while. I dig my phone out and dial Phoenix as I walk back to Reaper’s room and glance inside.

“How are they, Dragon?”

“Spitfire’s doing as good as can be expected after seeing everything she did. She’s all stitched up and just got cleared to go upstairs, but they had to pull her in to help Reaper.”

“Give me a sec,” he whispers, and my guess is to get out of earshot of the others.

“How bad is he?”

“They’re still working on him, but his heart rate was skyrocketing, and Patch said they were worried about if his heart would give out from the stress. But since he’s so torn up, it’s not safe to use the paddles if it does stop.”

“They suggested what Levi did for both of you when you both woke up, didn’t they?”

“Yeah. Once they took Spitfire into his room and had her talk to him, his heart rate dropped back down to normal, so she’s in there talking about anything and everything under the sun to keep him calm. I swear everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief when that happened.”

He exhales loudly. “Thank fuck it dropped. Do they know how much longer it’ll take to finish stitching him up?”

“So far, no, they haven’t. I honestly don’t know how much longer they’ll let me hang out in here since I’m outside his room right now. Thor’s dressed in scrubs and helping hold Levi steady since she can’t move very well right now and they think she might need one of us with her as she talks to Reaper and seeing him out of it. That and I think the pain from everything’s catching up to her.”

“Your babies okay?”

“Yeah, thank fuck.”

“No shit. Okay, I’ll let everyone know how things are going so far. I know everyone wants to at least lay eyes on both of them, even if they are passed out before they leave. We’ll still have some guards posted both inside and outside your room, as I’m sure you and Thor are probably gonna be running on empty soon since you both were in the accident, too.”

“Not gonna lie. I’m starting to feel it now that the adrenaline is wearing off.” I pause as I look down at the bag I set against the wall. “Later we’re gonna need to get their cuts reordered. They were ripped to shreds.”

“Tripp’s already working on it. Speaking of cuts, we have yours and Thor’s for when we’re able to see you.”

“Thank fuck. I feel naked without it. How’s Roy holding up?” Fuck, I hate that everyone’s been here practically two days in a row.

“Trying to hold it together. Bear’s helping him, but it doesn’t help that Roy suspects Bear knows how bad her injuries are and won’t tell him.”

“Fuck. I’ll see if I can find out anything about his timeline. Hey, I think I gotta let you go. They’re bringing over a wheelchair, so I want to see what’s going on.”

“Keep us posted,” he says and then hangs up.

I walk over to Patch, who’s bringing a wheelchair my way.

“What’s up Patch?”
