I type out a quick message to him and pocket my phone.

“So, they’re updated so far?”

“Yeah. I figured it was the least I could do since you were in there with Spitfire. Roy’s not taking it well, but Phoenix thinks it’s partially because Bear knows how injured she is and is refusing to tell Roy how bad it is.”

“Shit, we should have had him brought back while she was still awake. There’s no way they’ll let him go in Reaper’s room with her.”

I cringe. “Yeah, I feel bad about that. Honestly, I was trying my damndest to not kill anyone, so I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to even register that we should have brought him back.”

Thor groans and looks over at Levi’s bag hanging off my wheelchair. “We need to get them new cuts ordered.”

“I mentioned that to Phoenix, but he said Tripp’s already on it.”

“Thank fuck.”

I lean my head back against the wall and look up at the ceiling. “I know the guys all stepped up to help when Mom died, when we had to take Dad to the nursing home and then later for his funeral. But that pales in comparison to how much it seems everyone’s been rallying around us these last couple of days.”

Thor’s silent for a bit and I’m just about to check if he passed out when he speaks up.

“I think it’s Wildcat. Everyone loves her and honestly, I think she brings out the best in us, too.”

“Damn straight she does. Thank fuck, she said yes to giving us a chance.”

“I feel the same way.”

I wake up to arms lifting me and I try to pry my eyes open. It takes a few attempts, but finally, the sleep slips from my eyes.

“Easy, Spitfire, I gotcha.”

I tense when I feel a soft bed below me. “Where’s Andre?” I look around, but I’m the only one in the room. Where’d he go? I thought Allison said we were going to be allowed to share a room. The last thing I remember was talking to him about camping.

“Relax, Wildcat. They’re in the hall waiting for us and the nurse to get you situated and then they’ll bring in his bed.”

My body instantly relaxes at that.

I had tried not to freak out when Thor carried me into Andre’s room at first. However, since I was up higher, I could see over the paper guard they had set up by his head and upper body to try to block the view of them working. Fang and the others had really done a number on his chest, but only a few looked really deep. However, there were parts where skin had been shaved off.

I wasn’t sure how Andre would react to me talking to him at first, but relief flooded me when his heart rate started slowing down. I talked to him about everything from when I first met the twins, to when I first started throwing Grandpa’s knives, to camping, living at the compound, and the babies.

There were a few times that I broke down crying and told him he had to pull through this because I needed my gentle giant. That the babies needed to know their newest uncle.

Fuck, that was hard.

I don’t know if he heard any of it, but I imagine he at least heard my voice since his heart rate didn’t start to lower until I started talking. Then, because I had to do something with my hands, I ran my fingers gently through his long brown hair.

Fuck, I need him to pull through this.

My tears start falling again when I see the nurses maneuvering his bed into the room. I don’t remember what time it was when Thor brought me into his room, but I’m guessing a few hours have passed since the clock says it’s a little after 1 am.

Once Andre’s settled in, the nurse starts letting both the clubs come in, but they stressed it had to be for a quick visit. First in line is my dad and I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t thought to give him updates sooner. I hope the guys did.

He stops by my bed, unsure of how to touch me, even though I can tell he wants to. I open my arms.

“Soft hugs, but don’t squeeze. My back is fine, but I had to get some stitches on my arms, torso, and a couple on my right thigh. The rest should heal fine on their own.”

“Oh sweetie, I’m so sorry you had to go through this again,” he whispers, and I nod completely in agreement, but at the same time, I got off easy compared to Andre.

After he pulls back, he comes around the bed on my left side and pulls up a chair, making it clear he’s staying awhile.
