Drae: Yes, she’s still here, but she’s never alone.

FB: Find a way to get her alone, asswipe! Message me when you have her and we’ll coordinate a handoff.

Drae: I’ll see what I can do.

FB: You’ll do better than that. You get my girl or else I’ll be taking yours and having fun with her before I sell her. Her and your little daughter. She’ll pull in a ton of money with how sweet and innocent she is. Use her two friends if you need to, but get my girl!

His face pales further as his gaze darts around. Pings sound from around the room as Smoke sends the screenshots to everyone. Tension and anger grow in the room as they read the messages.

“I’m waiting, but I won’t be patient for much longer. Explain.”

“I-I didn’t want to be part of Black Plague. I knew I never wanted to but when you’re born into it, there isn’t much choice. I never prospected with them and as soon as I graduated high school, I split. Only my mom and sister knew of my plans to never join the club, and they were relieved. I’ve talked to my mom now and then since leaving, but it was always short, and I never say where I am. I don’t want them to find me.”

“Wait, are you saying you’re a Black Plague Prince?”

Drae hangs his head and nods. Shock courses through me. How did we miss that when we ran his background check? A glance at Smoke has me frowning as I see the same shocked look on his face. How did he hide that piece of information from us? Smoke is so good, sometimes the government taps him for jobs. For someone to pull this off and Smokenotable to spot it, they had to be damn fucking good.

“Not by choice. My name is Jason Drae Black or Ice to the club. My dad is Ghost, brother to the past president, my Uncle Boar. Dad was Uncle Boar’s VP. I wanted to be a part of a club that didn’t deal in drugs, weapons, women, or kids. I’d seen what Black Plague did over the years and I wanted nothing to do with that.

“I wandered around after leaving and when I was down to my last $100, I pulled into Forest Creek. I had heard that you were based here, and that you were legit. All the way. I wanted to join your guys’ MC and make a difference. I saw a sign at your garage that you needed a mechanic and I applied. Shortly after that, you accepted me as a prospect.”

He pauses, and worry swirls in my gut as I steal a glance at Dragon. What the hell can of worms did we open by allowing him to prospect?

“That’s why we didn’t know about your tie to Black Plague. You said your name was Drae Black and there was nothing in your background tying you to them. Did you get an alias set up? If so, who did it?”

Drae nods and hangs his head.

“I hate the name Jason. The only ones that used it were my mom and sister, well, sort of. They both called me JD. I wasn’t part of the club even though I was born into it. I didn’t really think anything of using Drae Black when I asked to prospect because everyone either called me Drae or Ice, which I also hated. I honestly didn’t mean to make an issue with you. Yes, I had a friend of mine wipe some of the information tied to me about the club because I didn’t want anything to do with them or have anythingtheydid come back to bite me in the ass.

“About three months ago, Dad called and demanded I come back home. I refused and hung up on him. A month later, he face-timed me. He had my mom tied to a chair and her whole body was already black and blue. Said if I didn’t come back, he’d kill her. I knew she wouldn’t want me to go back. Even though it killed me, I refused. He put a bullet in her head right there. Said I was a sorry excuse of a son and that my mother would be ashamed of me.” He pauses and a sad smile crosses his face. “Thing is, Mom was dying of stage 4 lung cancer.”

Swallowing hard, he looks down and shakes his head. No one speaks or moves as we watch him. He shakes his head again as he collects himself and exhales a shuddering breath.

“The doctor had given her months to live, but she made me swear to never let Dad use her against me. She must have known something was going on because she said she’d rather be killed than have to waste away in pain, both from the disease and his abuse. The bastard didn’t know about her cancer and when I told him on the phone call that he actually did her a favor, he didn’t believe me. I thought that was the end of it until my cousin reached out to me a few weeks ago.”

“Was it Fang?” Dragon asks and Drae nods.

“Yes. He said if I didn’t cooperate, they’d kidnap my girlfriend and sell our daughter. I had sent for them after I got settled here. I’ve tried to keep them safe and away from the club. She knew about my family and that I wanted no part of them other than my mother and sister. She’s still leery about your club, so I never brought her around. I didn’t know what to do when Fang said they’d take them.

“Fang told me that he already had this place bugged and proved it by explaining what had happened earlier that morning as well as things that had happened the past few weeks. Said he would know if I talked to you guys for help or if I tried to warn Levi. If I did either, he’d take Jane, making what he did to Levi’s mom look like child’s play. I-I couldn’t risk it. She and Lindsey are all that I have left now. I’m sorry.” His shoulders shake as tears ran down his face.

Looking up at Dragon and the others, they give chin lifts. Drae doesn’t even look up when I move closer, crouching in front of him.

“You said you only have Jane and Lindsey left. What happened to your sister?”

His shoulders shake harder, and the pit in my stomach grows.

“S-she was the oldest of us, seven years older than me. When I was fifteen, I came home from school one day and her room was cleaned out. I asked Mom where she’d gone, but she wouldn’t answer me. Fang walked in and grinned at Mom. She started crying and quickly left.

“That’s when I knew. He’d finally gotten to her. It didn’t matter that we were first cousins. He was always groping her and trying to get her to sleep with him. From his sadistic grin, I knew he took and had his way with her. Probably my other cousins as well. I later found out she was then sold to a sick fuck who enjoyed raping and abusing children and women. Hell, sometimes even men. I couldn’t find where she was sent, just that she was sold to him. That was five years ago.” He shakes his head as his shoulders slump.

“We’ll help you with Jane and Lindsey. I’m not sure if we’ll be able to find your sister… but we can look into it. What’s her name?”

His head snaps up in shock, and then his eyes narrow in suspicion.

“Why? I gave information to Fang, confirming Levi was here and a few other things. Why?”

With a sad smile, I place a hand on his shoulder.
