As I round the corner, I’m surprised that all the bunnies are actually in here for once and are actually fucking helping Levi, Roxy, and Sasha take inventory. Having Levi here is going to change things for the better, I think.

I clear my throat and when Levi looks up; her face once again lights up into a bright smile.

“Hey Smoke. Can we get ya anything?”

“Actually, I was wondering if you would have some time? I’d like to talk to you a bit.” Her body tenses slightly, and she gnaws at her lip. Shit, I bet she’s worried I’m mad at her.

“Sure,” she says before turning toward Roxy. “Will you be okay without me for a bit? I’ll come find you after we’re done.”

The ladies all wave her off.

“Go girl. And don’t look so nervous. It’s probably just a chat so you both can learn more about each other,” Roxy says as she shoos off Levi.

“Smoke,????? ?????????? ? ?????,” Sasha says as she raises her beer bottle at me. I have no idea what she just said, but I still find myself raising my drink back at her. Levi follows me out into the hall, and I steer her toward the bar.

Giving a chin lift to Colt, I set down my now empty bottle. “Refills for Thor, Dragon, and me,” I say and then pause as I turn to Levi. “You want a drink, kiddo?”

“Sure. Can I have a coke please, Colt?”

Grabbing the drinks, I guide her toward the office, and her nervousness seems to skyrocket.

“Um, Smoke… are you mad at me by chance? I’m sorry for touching your laptop without asking first.”

I grin and shake my head. “Nah, kiddo, I’m not mad and you’re the only person I’ll let touch my laptop. I want to share something with you and figured Dragon should probably know too, since I just claimed you as my sister.”

“I take it Thor already knows?”

I give a curt nod, feeling my body tense up. I don’t want to relive this shit, but I also don’t want to start off our relationship without her knowing what happened. No, I want everything out in the open from the start. I knew Levi was different from Lillian at the get-go and wouldn’t purposefully screw anyone over, but some things were just hard to shake.

Once in the office, I shut the door and feel my chest warm when Dragon reaches out for Levi and pulls her onto his lap. I hand out the refills before retaking my seat. Taking a deep breath, I exhale heavily, staring down at the label on the bottle.

“I had a daughter.”

Levi’s sharp intake has my gut twisting even worse, but they need to know.

“I was seeing someone, and I thought it was getting kind of serious. Even more so when she found out she was pregnant.” I pause as the memories wash over me.

“Each doctor’s appointment that she had, I made sure I was there with her. Then we’d stop by the baby store and pick up a few more things for her. Money was kind of tight back then since we were also planning to build a house soon, so we decided to get the baby things gradually. At the time, she was living in Rixen, and I was living here at the clubhouse, but I spent almost every night with her. We had planned to rent one of the apartments the club owns until the house was finished and had it all lined up to move in a month before she was due.

“Lillian went into labor six weeks early. I was here, finishing putting together the baby crib in the apartment, then was planning to propose to her that night at dinner. I got the call from the hospital that she was admitted and in the early stages of labor. The fucking hospital called… not her…” I grit out as I feel my anger rising.

A small hand lands on my arm before the cushion next to me dips as Levi leans against me. Surprisingly, having her there lessens my anger a little. Not much, but I no longer feel like I’m on the verge of doing something stupid, like killing my fucking bitch of an ex or that asshole.

“When I got to the hospital, they immediately brought me back… but there was another man in the room. A man I didn’t know that was holding my baby. They were both crying, and I didn’t know what was going on.”

“What the fuck is going on? Who are you and why are you holding my daughter, asshole?” It was then that I noticed Patch came into the room along with Thor. Wait… how did they get here so fast?

Lillian’s crying gets louder and the man goes to her, pulling her in for a hug.

“Give me my daughter and get the fuck away from my girlfriend,” I say through gritted teeth. I want to punch the fucker so hard, but don’t want to hurt Mae. How dare he hold my girls?

The longer dipshit holds Lillian, the more my chest aches as my mind reels at why this asshole was in Lillian’s room and why he was holding my girls in an all too loving manner.

“Give me my daughter, then get the fuck out of here. I’d like to be alone with my girls.”

The man straightens, and though he pales a bit at seeing me and my cut, he doesn’t budge. He’s a good foot shorter than me. His blond hair was slicked back, though it looked greasy, and from his round belly, he either loved to eat or loved to drink too much.

“Not until you calm down. And I would like to ask you to refrain from using that language around my wife.”
