“Want to try again?” Smoke asks as he holds up Andrew’s dick for a second and then tosses it into a biohazard bag that will be burned later on.

Andrew’s chest heaves as tears streak down his face and he nods.

“How do you know X?”

“H-he’s who I b-bought my first w-wife from.”

Curses ring out and Mae steps forward, but I grab her by the hips. Her whole body is trembling with anger.

“What do you mean ‘first’?” I ask.

Mae freezes. “Wait. Are you like Carter? He told me his wife is one of many. How many wives do you both have? Are all of them unwilling?”

Andrew grins wickedly even though the fucker has to be in a shit ton of pain and is shivering like crazy. “I-I have eight wives and he has s-six. They all know their p-places, unlike you two b-b-bitches who think they can b-b-belong in a man’s world. The only t-things a woman is good for are sex, obeying our o-orders, having k-kids, and k-keeping the house in order. T-that’s it. T-they know to obey our every c-command, otherwise they’ll be s-severely p-punished.”

What the fuck...

My stomach churns at Andrew’s words and his words bounce around my mind. I have a nagging feeling like I’m forgetting something.

Then it hits me like a ton of bricks.

Michael said the same words to me when he tried to rape me.

Futtenfarter...

Are they part of a cult or something? Michael had mentioned ‘the Oasis’ a few times over the years and the things he and X would say always sounded like they belonged in the history books. Of course, they didn’t know I’d heard all that, but when they were drunk, they were loud. I could hear every word of theirs through the paper-thin walls.

Women served their every need and obeyed every word. They had to dress a certain way. They weren’t allowed to leave. As soon as a woman could no longer bear children, they were demoted from their status, moved into a rickety hut and given even more chores. Usually, they were despicable ones at that. That was their lives until they died and even then, they were buried in unmarked graves.

Crap...How am I going to go about getting the information out of them and find out where the Oasis is located without me outright asking them? Right now, I really wish I knew how to speak Russian so I could at least ask Sasha for advice.

Feeling eyes on me, I look around to see Loki looking at me oddly. I raise an eyebrow in question, but don’t look away. He continues to stare at me for a bit before ever so slightly, dipping his chin.

Pushing off the cabinet, he stalks toward Andrew, yanking his head back and baring his neck to Dad.

“So, you’re that pathetic that you have to kidnap or buy your women? How are you even able to hide that you have so many wives?” Loki asks Andrew.

Holy crap... Is the man psychic?

Andrew doesn’t answer right away and Dad starts cutting him in various places, making him cry out, but Loki never lets go of his grip.

“O-only my f-first wife and I-I live in town. The others l-live somewhere else. Same with Carter.”

“Did you get all your wives from X?”

When he hesitates, Dad cuts him again, deeper than before.

“Y-yes! Yes, I b-bought them all from him. He k-knows the type of women I l-like and w-when he has one that fits my r-requests, he lets me k-know about them.

“Where? Where are they?” I ask, trying to keep my voice as level as possible.

“I c-can’t tell you that.”

Dad huffs. “Yes, you can. You’re going to die anyway, so you don’t have to worry about someone else killing you for telling us.”

Andrew presses his lips together tightly, refusing to answer.

Anger rises in me, and this time when I step forward, Timber lets me go.
