Finally, the camera turns and Bruce’s face fills the frame.

“You know what I want, Mae. You were mine and you gave what was mine to another man. You had the audacity to marry someone when you were bought by me. Like that will protect you. Those men and your dear husband will all die by our hands. If you don’t turn yourself over, more people will pay. What we do to them—their injuries, their blood, their torture, and possibly even their deaths—they will all be on your hands. Time is ticking, Precious.”

His evil laugh comes through and is joined by others laughing as the video cuts out.

Looking up at Mae, her face is paler than before and I take her phone, slipping it back into my cut. “I’m not giving you up, Sunshine. And don’t believe a word he said. What they do isnoton your hands. It’s on them. They are responsible for their own actions. Not you.”

Numbly, she nods. “I just hate that they always find a way to taint something that makes me happy. Why can’t they just let me be happy?” she says as another sob escapes her and she buries her face in her hands.

Standing, I scoop her up and sit with her on my lap as I hold her.

My anger has me tightening my arms around her as I listen to her sobs. I will make those fuckers pay for what they’ve been putting Mae through. Drae too, for that matter, if they really do have his girlfriend and daughter.

Suddenly, Mae sits upright in my lap. “How did I miss that before?”

“What?” I ask her, confused.

Instead of answering, she slides off my lap. “Help me out of this. We need to change and get down there, quickly.”

My fingers make quick work of her buttons while she takes off her jewelry. When she slips out of the dress, I groan internally. Seeing my Sunshine in just a thong, garter, and heels have me as hard as steel.

“Later,” she purrs as she starts to take the tape off her breasts. She winces slightly as the tape pulls at her skin. Once it’s removed, she bends over to unlace her heels.

“Fuck, baby,” I groan as I stare at her gorgeous ass in that thong.

She giggles.

Fucking giggles, and I swear she puts extra sway in her hips as she goes to the closet to grab clothes.

“You’re gonna pay for this later, Sunshine,” I growl and she winks at me from over her shoulder before sliding on a bra, followed by her clothes.

Slipping off my cut, I take off my button-down shirt, pull a t-shirt out of my dresser and put it on. Mae slips into the bathroom as I put my cut back on and I lean against the bathroom door frame as I watch her.

She wipes off her makeup and then starts taking out the comb and bobby pins from her hair. Stepping forward, I help her and soon she’s got it brushed out and pulling it up into a messy bun on top of her head.

Mae walks over to the door and grabs her cut off the hook, slipping it on.

“Fuck, baby. You are downright sexy in my property cut.” Fuck, I wish I could rip off her pants and bury myself in her from behind.

“Later, sexy. We need to get to Church and I need to talk to Drae. He showed me some picture of his little girl yesterday and something was bugging me about them but I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time. Now I know what it was. They were doctored.”

I stare at her for a moment, and curse before we both rush out of the room, locking it on our way out.

Moments later, I take my usual seat, pulling Mae down on my lap and internally grimace when I realize we’re the last ones in there.

“I’m sorry for making us late. I had a bit of a breakdown when I saw the pictures,” Mae says quietly as she shifts on my lap.

“I’m sorry, too,” Thor says softly to her and she dips her head in acknowledgement. “Drae has shared the pictures he received the past few weeks with Smoke, along with the text messages, and we were about to put them up on the screen,” he says.

Smoke hits some buttons on the computer and multiple pictures appear on the screen.

“That one,” Mae says as she gets up and points to the middle one in the top row. “I was just telling Timber this when I was changing that something felt off about the pictures Drae showed me the other day, but I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time.”

“What did you notice? I’m not following you,” Thor says as he steps closer to the screen.

The picture is of Lindsey sitting on a chair reading a book in what looks like a living room.

“The light and shadows in it are all wrong. This picture was pieced together. It’s not real.”
