Liam touches his ear and it’s then that I see he’s wearing some sort of communications device. Punisher gives me his and I put it my ear.
“Front team, status check?” Liam asks.
“Just got the bitch and assholes all trussed up. The unknown woman is actually Jane’s mother, Elvira. Bastards ran their car off the road. That’s how they got their hands on them. Jane’s dad, Douglas, died in the car accident,”Bones replies.
“What about ‘you know who’?” Drae asks Liam and I’m assuming the guys on the line.
Since Lindsey’s still in Drae’s arms, I reach up and cover her ears so Liam can say it. Drae nods at me in thanks.
“Is Ghost among them? Also, we have Bruce locked in a cell out here. He’s breathing, but he’s in rough shape. Sunshine got in quite a few good hits.”
Bones chuckles softly.“Kuddos to Mae. Ghost’s body was found in the basement, gunshot wound to the head. We already called for a cleanup crew, so you guys are good to head back with the ladies.”
Drae’s body relaxes and I let go of Lindsey’s ears. She shifts in his arm and wraps her arms around my neck.
I lean up kissing her temple and she rests her forehead on mine since she’s higher up than me.
“You were so brave, Pumpkin. I’m proud of you,” I tell her.
“I couldn’t have done it without you, though, Mae. I was so scared after both our moms stopped moving. I didn’t know what they were going to do with me.”
Tears prick my eyes again, and I pull back before leaning my side into Liam’s chest.
“How about we get you ladies out of here and back to the clubhouse for some medical attention. Doc came down and brought a whole bunch of stuff that I think will help both of you,” Liam says as he carefully wraps an arm around my waist.
Mention of medical stuff has me remembering where Bruce and his minions grabbed me. “Wait! How’s Dad?”
Liam chuckles and then taps his shirt button and points to the earpiece. “Wave and say hello.”
“Dad?”
“Fuck, Baby Girl, it’s good to hear your voice again.”
I narrow my eyes at the button and then at Liam. “He wouldn’t do this from the hospital. You all busted him out, didn’t you?”
At his sheepish nod, I turn my scowl back at the camera and stab at it without really hitting it.
“You pop one stitch and I will have your rear carted back in there. You understand me?”
His laughter is music to my ears, but it still sounds strained.
“Dad, get someone to help you to your room and take a pain pill. We’ll be back soon. Hopefully anyway, since I don’t know where we are.”
He groans through the earpiece.“I’m gonna be bossed around forever by you, aren’t I?”
“You bet your booty and I will tan your hide if need be. Now, do as I say.”
“Fine. And you will be back soon. Bastard took you to your grandparents’ house.”
“Futtenfarter,” I grumble. “I’m handing this back to Kai now,” I say as I shake my head and give Kai back his earpiece.
Lindsey’s giggle has me turning toward her and she pokes my cheek. “You curse funny.”
This has all of us chuckling, breaking some of the tension around us.
“Let’s get out of here,” Timber says, and I lean up to kiss him.
I couldn’t agree more.
