“If you were to become Timber’s Old Lady and didn’t want to become a full club member, this is what the back of your cut would look like. This is how Levi’s was before she was patched in.”

“What did she do that convinced the club to allow women to patch in?”

Sasha nibbles her lip and shakes her head. “I think you should ask Levi that question. And maybe even Thor and Dragon. It’s hers and Reaper’s story to tell, and I’m not sure how much they want to share. What I can say is that some major shit went down and both Levi and Reaper were injured because of it. I think the club will protect you regardless of if you choose to be with Timber, but that protection will increase if you do become his Old Lady, and I’m not saying that to push you towards Timber. The club will do anything to keep their women and children safe.”

Nodding, I look down at my hands as I take in her words. Though part of my nervousness is because my emotions seem to be at war right now. Between finding out about Preston’s deal to sell me, about Smoke, him acting like this, and then add on top of that my developing feelings for Timber, I’m a complete mess.

Tonight or tomorrow, I think I’ll need to talk to Timber about everything. Maybe even Levi, too. They need to know what happened in case Smoke continues to act like this.

“Will you... Can you be there when I talk to Levi tomorrow? Maybe I can see if Nikki will, too? If Smoke won’t talk to me, I’d at least like you guys to know since you all are my family now. Timber, too. I’m assuming Thor should probably know since he’s the President of the club.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I see her face soften and she once again steps forward to wrap me in a hug. After a few moments, she pulls back and we both wipe a few stray tears away.

“If Smoke doesn’t come around after he sobers up, I’m so gonna beat his ass for putting you through this. And yes, I’ll be there. I heard Timber saying you said you’d like to stay at his house. I’ll talk to the others and we can all meet over at Timber’s house tomorrow morning so that you won’t have to come to the clubhouse. You’ll have more privacy there as well.”

Nodding, we both move to the door and since I’m closer, I open it only to stagger back in surprise. Not again...

Smoke is at the door and his face is contorted in anger and rage.

Suddenly, Sasha pulls me behind her and she brandishes a blade in each hand, both of them pointed at Smoke. Wait, where did the blades come from? I shake my head to clear away my shock.

“Please don’t hurt him!” Even though he’s been acting like a son of a monkey, he’s still my dad.

Unfortunately, my insistence that he not be hurt only makes him angrier. “Move, Sasha. I don’t know what lies she’s told all of you to have you all wrapped around her finger, but this ends now. I’m tossing her out of here like the whoring, junkie, trailer park piece of trash that she is!” he snarls.

Sasha’s hands tighten around the hilts of her blades.

“Smoke, you’re drunk off your ass. For fuck’s sake, you’re so drunk a stiff breeze would blow you over. You need to go upstairs and sleep this all off.”

“Move, Sasha. Before I make you move.”

He starts reaching for her but Sasha doesn’t get to reply because suddenly Smoke is pulled away from us and thrown up against the other wall of the hallway. Timber’s broad back is facing me and he’s holding Smoke up by the neck of his shirt.

“Sasha, get Sunshine upstairs to my room so she can get her things and then take her to my house. I’ll be there shortly after I set a few things straight with my brother here.”

The coldness of his voice sends ice down my spine. Sasha nods and puts one of her blades away... somewhere on her body. She grabs the keys Timber holds out and then tugs my arm, making sure she stays between Smoke and me as we sidestep out of the bathroom and start down the hall.

I pause behind Timber and touch my hand to the small of his back and then rest my forehead against his back.

“Please, don’t hurt him. I know he’s drunk and angry, but he’s still my dad and I don’t want him to get hurt.”

The muscles in Timber’s back tense, and for a moment, I think he’s going to deny me, but then they relax.

“So long as he doesn’t lay a finger on you and he stops this fucking nonsense and listens to reason like a normal fucking adult from here on out, then no, I won’t hurt him. But if he does any of that after our talk...”

His voice trails off, and I hear the underlying threat. Nodding, I place a kiss on his back and Sasha tugs on my arm again. She doesn’t take her eyes off Smoke as we cross the main room to the stairs. Rushing up the stairs in front of her, I darn near run to Timber’s room. My shaky hands are barely able to unlock his door, but somehow, I manage. I need to get to Timber’s house before the dam holding my emotions back gives way entirely.

Sasha grabs the bags she bought for me earlier, and I kneel next to the safe after opening my backpack. Taking a quick peek behind me, I notice Sasha’s checking the windows while also keeping an eye on the door. I don’t know what training she’s had before, but I can tell she knows how to fight.

Quickly, I enter the passcode and retrieve my documents, money, and my pictures before stuffing them into my backpack. Rezipping it, I stand and sling the duffle bag over my shoulder.

“I’m ready,” I tell her, though even I can hear the waver in my voice.

Nodding, she strides to the door, but pauses as if she’s listening for something. Peeking her head out, she gives me a chin lift and I follow her.

“This feels so weird. Having to watch my back in our own clubhouse,” she mutters under her breath.

I shrink in on her words. This is all my fault. By coming here, I’ve created such a mess in their clubhouse.
