He steps closer and whispers in my ear. “Can’t have you using your card, Sunshine. If they have the means, they’ll be able to track where you are.”

I freeze, feeling like someone’s dumped a bucket of ice water over me. Licking my lips, I nod and wrap my arms around my waist as the reality of the situation I’m in comes crashing back down around me.

Thankfully, we make it out to the car without incident.

“Let’s grab a bite to eat,” Ragnar suggests, and I nod. I don’t miss his frown or Timber’s, but I can’t help it right now. Not after that reminder.

The car ride to the restaurant is subdued. I want to be excited. To be happy with the new changes in my life, but it’s also why I’ve had to change that’s a heavy weight on my shoulders.

When Nathan parks, I force myself to push those thoughts away for right now. Well, as best as I can, anyway.

Timber gets off his motorcycle and after they all look around, he comes around to my door and opens it. I plaster on a smile, but judging by his frown, I’m not fooling him any. He kisses my temple and guides me into the restaurant.

Looking up, it’s the same sub chain I ate at yesterday at the mall and I’m glad I’m not trying anything new right now. My nerves, combined with anything new, would probably make me sick.

While we eat, the others keep trying to draw me into the conversation, but I can’t really bring myself to answer more than a word or two.

After we eat, we load up and head to the dealership.

My excitement at getting gear to be able to ride on Timber’s bike helps push away my gloomy feelings, but they’re still there at the back of my mind.

God, I can’t wait until the guys catch Preston, Bruce, Michael, Phillip, and X.

I have no doubt that they’ll be dealt with the club way. I’ve read enough to know that clubs do that as much as they’re able to. While I’ve often doubted a lot of the things I’ve read about motorcycle clubs, that part is one I always believed. There will be no calling in the cops unless, for some reason, the cops catch their trail. And even then, I don’t know if the guys will hand over any of the four men to them.

Shaking my head, I take Timber’s hand when he opens my door and we walk into the dealership together.

“Ma, Atlas put the shirt for you under the register. Let him know if you need to change the size or color,” Punisher, I mean Kai, says before he takes my arm and pulls me away from Timber. His irritated growl has me giving him a smile, a real one, and he calms down before following after us.

“Now, let’s start with a jacket, Lil’ Bit.”

Kai shows me the various styles they have, and I feel out of my element a little. After trying them on, I pick the one that allows me to move the easiest but also has a smidge extra room since I plan to put on weight. I don’t want to have to be buying another jacket again come spring if I don’t have to.

Next up is gloves. While he said I don’t have to wear them all the time, they will help later in the fall before the snow flies. Same for spring when they stop salting the roads.

Once I find a pair I like, they take me over to the boots and I have to tamp down my excitement. I’ve always loved boots, but other than snow boots, I could never really afford them before. In the end, I get a couple of pairs, both of them have a little bit of a heel but not the two-inch ones.

“Mae,” Mama Astrid calls out and I turn, looking for where she is to find her over by the clothing. Kai takes everything I want out of my arms and I hurry over to her, eager to also get a few shirts.

“You’ve got to try this one on. I think it’ll look gorgeous on you.”

She holds up a short-sleeve shirt that has a bit of sinching on the sides. Agreeing with her, I look for my size and snag it before looking through the rest of the racks. After a few minutes, I take the few shirts and hoodies I picked out, plus a few others Timber and Mama Astrid picked out, and make my way to the dressing room.

I’m shocked at how well everything looks and that everything fits. The hoodie is, of course, a bit bigger than the other shirts because I love having the extra room with hoodies. Deciding to wear the shirt Mama Astrid picked out for me and a pair of the boots, I put my tennis shoes in the box the boots were in along with the tags from the shirt in the box.

Gathering everything up, I exit the dressing room and come to a halt. Anger rises in my veins at seeing a woman dressed in cutoff shorts and a tank top pressing herself up against Timber. He keeps trying to push her away, but she keeps stepping back into his space.

Dumping my stuff on the counter, Kai smirks when he sees me, and I really hope he isn’t thinking I’ll be taking out the trash again. I don’t want to cause a scene in his store.

Stepping up behind Liam, I wrap my arm around his waist and lean on his other side, the one the skank isn’t sidled up to. At my touch, his body relaxes a little. Seeing how taut his face is leads me to believe this woman isn’t listening to him.

“Baby, who’s this?” I ask, trying to keep my voice level, but I can’t stop the curl of my lip when I see how much cleavage she’s got on display.

“Honestly, Sunshine, I have no idea who she is, and she seems to think I’m lying to her about being with someone.”

He wraps an arm around my waist and pushes the woman away again. Her face screws up and my stomach tightens when she sneers at me as she takes me in.

“Are you sure you’re even legal, little girl? Run on home to your mama and let the adults here talk.”
