“What’s on the menu?” I ask.

“How about some Burrito Bowl Soup?” Kyle has a smile playing on his lips as he speaks.

“Is that on the menu?” I ask the waiter who nods.

“Then I will have that.”

“I will have that as well.”

After the waiter leaves, I turn to look at Kyle who’s now looking at me. “Oh my God, Kyle, thank you so much, I’ve been craving that soup for ages.”

“I know. You almost burned down my kitchen because you were trying to make it.”

“I’m sorry about that,” I say feeling embarrassed.

“It’s fine.” Kyle takes my hand and kisses the inside of my palm. “Now you can have what you’ve always craved.”

“Thank you.”

Kyle picks up his glass and brings it to mine. “Cheers to satisfying our cravings.”

“To satisfy our cravings.”

Speaking of cravings, I want so badly to have Kyle’s lips on mine and every other part of my body.

When our meal arrives, I distract myself from my lustful thoughts by focusing on the sumptuous meal before me.

Kyle and I talk about everything, from work to music, food, and every other thing we could think of. Just like old times when we used to go out to grab a bite. But just that in the old times, I didn’t know what he tastes like and don’t want so badly to have him in bed.

And Kyle didn’t look at me the way he’s looking at me right now. Like he wants to undress me.

“You’re still against us getting a dog?” I ask trying every means to distract myself from the lustful thoughts in my head.

“My answer still remains the same.”

“But why not? Dogs are cute; I promise you will come to love…”

“Mischief…” Kyle cuts in, his eyes now holding mine. “Don’t tell me you’re already making plans of getting a dog?”

I hate how he’s able to know what I’m thinking about by just looking at me. I might have stopped by an animal shelter to inquire about what it would take to adopt a puppy. But I’m not going to tell him that.

“Mischief?”

I shake my head from side to side. “No.”

Kyle doesn’t seem to believe me but he doesn’t push it. By the time we’re done eating, we go to the rooftop of the restaurant and stay there gazing at the stars sipping some champagne.

When we get to the car, Kyle and I could barely take our hands off each other and the moment we get back to the house, we were tearing at each other’s clothes.

That night as I drift off to sleep, with my body curled up next to Kyle, I know that I’m setting myself up for heartbreak because when all of this is over, then I would be forced to face reality.

The next morning, I woke up to a text from my mother asking for us to meet and talk. And just like the rest of the text she has been sending since that night Kyle stood up to her and Dad, I ignore it.

As I try to sleep out of bed, Kyle pulls me back. “Where are you running off to?” He mumbles with his eyes still closed.

“I thought you were asleep?” I kiss the tip of his nose and he smiles, now pinning me to his body. “Nope, wide awake.”

“Funny, because you still have your eyes closed.”
