It’s a massive canvas covered in intricate swirls of oil paint, depicting a dreamlike landscape. The colors blend together like watercolors on wet paper, creating a surreal and enchanting vista.

I’m not particularly an art lover but it's impossible not to be drawn into the artist's world, where reality and fantasy merge.

“I think it’s beautiful.”

“Then we should get it.”

“Yeah, we should.”

Kyle places his hand around my shoulders. “I will make an order for it, but meanwhile, let’s have a look at the others.”

As Kyle and I make our way through the gallery, I try my best not to think about the earlier encounter with my father. He gave up every right to speak to me the moment he tried to sacrifice my happiness for money.

“This would look good hanging in your bedroom,” Kyle calls my attention to a particular painting that’s hanging on the wall in front of us and as I bring my focus to it, I realize that it’s me.

It’s a picture of me. I’m standing in my favorite park in front of a water fountain, with a smile on my face, the picture was taken from the side and every other person around me is blurred, making me the center of attention.

“How did you do…” my voice trails off as I gasp in surprise. Everyone around me is looking at me because they now realize that I’m the one in the picture.

“When did you have this taken?” I ask in surprise when I’ve finally been able to find my voice.

Kyle shrugs like it’s nothing. “You like it?”

“I love it!” Not bothering that we have audience, I throw my arms around him in a hug and then kiss him. “Thank you,” I murmur against his lips. I know this public display of affection is going to have us trending on blogs but I really don’t care right now.

“You’re welcome.” Kyle kisses the corner of my lips before taking my hands. “We should see other arts.”

But we don’t actually see any art as we both make our way to the restroom and we both sneak into one of the male restrooms. The moment Kyle locks the door, we both have our hands in each other’s clothes, kissing and having a feel of each other’s body.

And as Kyle slides my pantie to the side, and slipping himself inside me, I know that this isn’t a mistake. Our parents might have gone about making us get married the wrong way, but this isn’t wrong, nothing about it feels wrong. It’s definitely meant to be.

Chapter 14

Kyle

“See who has finally decided to grace us with his presence,” Jake says the moment I walk into the rooftop lounge where they are all seated having drinks. It’s our regular meet up bar.

Emily who’s sitting beside Mike, looking at her phone, quickly gets off her seat and comes to give me a hug.

“It’s so good to see you again,” she says smiling.

“It’s so good to have our friend back,” Mike says, shaking my hand as he gets up to meet me.

“You guys talk as if you lost me.”

Jake takes a sip of his drink giving me a side eye. “When was the last time you hung out with us? Ever since you got married, we’ve barely seen you.”

Jake is right about that, ever since Jewel and I got married, I’ve barely hung out with my friends and it hasn’t been on purpose, I just find myself spending more time with Jewel. When I’m not working, I’m at home spending time with her.

She makes my house feel like home. I used to think my space was my safe haven, but ever since Jewel stepped in, she has turned it into something more.

“For someone who didn’t want to get married, you look really happy.” Emily comments.

I take a seat beside Mike, adjacent from Jake and Emily. “How do you mean?” I ask, feigning ignorance as I pour myself two fingers of scotch, nodding my head to the soft jazz tune that’s coming from the speakers.

“You’re glowing, man, you look like you’re in love,” Emily teases.

Jake shakes his head. “No, you’ve got it wrong, he doesn’t look like he’s in love, he is in love.”
