“Kyle,” she says walking closer to me. Now she wants to talk to me? “Your father and I mean well for you.” She’s now standing by my car.

“Your father means well for you, he…”

“No, he doesn’t, he’s doing what is best for him, it has always been about him.”

My mother takes a deep breath. “Jewel is a good girl, maybe a little wild, but she’s a good girl and will make you a good wife.”

“I don’t need a wife, and even if I did need one, I don’t need you both meddling.”

“You and Jewel will make a good couple, you’re both friends anyway, so it will be easy. Your father is serious about handing over the reins of the company to your cousin. I think you should consider it.”

“I can’t believe you would allow him to do this.”

“You know how your father is, once he’s set in his ways you can’t change his mind.”

“I need to go.”

“Please think about it.” My mother steps away as I get into my car and drive out of the house.

Just twenty fours ago, my life was perfect, no one was trying to force me into getting married. How did things get to this all because of some picture a silly reporter had taken?

Last night, when I decided to hit the club to blow off some steam after a grueling week of work, I had no inkling that my life was about to take such an unexpected turn.

When Jewel approached me and planted an unexpected kiss on my lips, I was utterly caught off guard. My initial instinct was to push her away, but for some inexplicable reason, I found myself not only enjoying the kiss but also returning it.

I've known Jewel practically since the day she was born, and I've always been protective of her, much like an older brother would be. I've seen her as my little sister for as long as I can remember.

Well, that was until yesterday. Now, I find myself in a situation where I have to either marry her or watch the CEO position of Anderson Corporation slip through my fingers and into the hands of James.

The thought of having that idiot as my boss makes me want to rip my eyes out. No, that can never happen.

When I get home, I decide to take a nap hoping to feel better when I wake up, but I can’t seem to sleep, when I close my eyes, all I can think of is the conversation I had with my parents.

As the day rolls on, I can't escape the relentless buzz surrounding the pictures of Jewel and me kissing that have blown up on the internet. My phone is constantly pinging with messages, and the news seems to be everywhere I turn. To make matters worse, my parents' ultimatum hangs over my head like a dark cloud.

I decide to invite my closest friends over to my place, hoping that their presence and a few drinks will help me forget my troubles, even if just for a while.; once he’s set in his ways,

Mike, my childhood buddy and partner in all sorts of mischief, is the first to arrive. He greets me with a slap on the back and a knowing grin.

"Kyle, my man! You're practically famous now," he teases, taking a seat on the plush sofa in my spacious living room.

I roll my eyes. "Don't remind me, Mike. It's a complete disaster."

Just then, Emily and Jake, my two other close friends, walk in together. Emily, always the peacemaker of our group, tries to lighten the mood.

"Well, at least you're trending, Kyle. You're the talk of the town," she says, trying to sound optimistic.

Jake, the resident jokester, chimes in, "Yeah, man, you're on fire! Literally."

I shoot them all a half-hearted smile before getting to the real reason I've invited them over. "Look, guys, I appreciate the support, but there's more to this mess than meets the eye."

They exchange puzzled glances as they settle into the living room.

Mike leans forward, concern in his eyes. "Alright, spill it, Kyle. What's going on?"

I sigh, trying to find the right words. "It's not just about the pictures. My parents...they dropped a bombshell on me."

Emily furrows her brow. "What do you mean?"
