“The thought of grabbing a burger sounds appealing,” she says with a smile.

“Then let’s go get a burger.” I signal to my driver. “Take us to Burger King.”

The ride to Burger King is a quiet one with Jewel’s head resting on my shoulder. After we get our burgers, we both sit in the back of the car eating and drinking orange juice as the driver takes us back to the house.

“I’m sorry for the stress that I’ve put you through this past week,” I say.

“I’m not complaining, am I?” She says with a smile before taking another bite of her burger.

There’s a mayonnaise stain by the side of her lips, and instead of cleaning it with a napkin I decide to kiss it away.

Jewel places her burger on her lap and leans in deepening our kiss. I gently pull away chuckling as she starts to pull her fingers through my hair.

“If we don’t stop now, I’m not sure we will be able to,” I whisper, my lips ghosting hers.

She smiles, and returns to eating her burger. I let out a groan when my phone starts to ring. I take it out of my pocket to see that it’s Mr. Bright, one of the senior board members calling.

“Hello, Mr. Bright.”

“Hello, Kyle, did I catch you at a bad time?”

“No, is there a problem?”

“Yeah, there is a problem that requires urgent attention.”

The hair at the back of my neck stands as I sit up. “What could be the problem?”

“It’s not something that I would want us to talk about over the phone,” he says. “How about we meet later tonight?”

“Okay, yeah sure.”

“Stone Café, 8 p.m.?”

“Yeah, I will meet you there.”

After the call disconnects, I feel a sense of unease as I try to figure out what the problem could be and why Mr. Bright wants us to see.

“Is there a problem?” Jewel asks in a calm tone, and I turn to look at her, smiling. “No, that was just one of the company’s partners, he wants us to meet later to talk about some work-related stuff.” I try my best not to show my worry.

She wrinkles her nose. “It’s the weekend. And you are supposed to be resting.”

“Yeah, but it’s important that I meet with him. Not to worry I’m sure the meeting won’t take long.” I lean in and kiss the corner of her lips.

The responsibility of overseeing Anderson Corp weighs heavily on my shoulders. Lately, a lot of board meetings have been held, as decisions need to be made in my father's absence on who will take over the running of Anderson Corp.

When we get home, we both take a shower and fell asleep together on the couch while watching a movie. I’m startled awake when my alarm comes indicating it’s 7 p.m. Stone Cafe is quite a drive from the house, so I need to leave on time.

Jewel mumbles something in her sleep as she turns and continues sleeping. I get a blanket to cover her with before going upstairs to change for my meeting with Mr. Bright.

Instead of my driver taking me, I decide to drive myself, and by the time I arrive at Stone Cafe, Mr. Bright is already there waiting.

As I walk in, I feel a twinge of anticipation mingled with a hint of trepidation. The prospect of a late-night meeting with Mr. Bright carries an air of mystery, and it raises questions I can't ignore.

“Hey Kyle, good you could make it.” He stands to shake me when I arrive at his table.

“Good evening Mr. Bright,” I say as I briefly shake his hand.

Mr. Bright is a stout-looking man who’s almost the same age as my father. He’s one of the board members who is on my side in becoming the CEO of Anderson Corp.
