I studied his eyes, taking him in with every breath. I wanted this. I wanted him. But losing us, if this ended up being the disaster it had the potential to be… I wasn’t sure my life would ever be the same.

“Amber.”

I blinked, registering the use of my name. He barely ever used it.

“I’m thinking.”

“If you think any harder, your head will explode,” he laughed, running a finger over the lines of my frown.

“I don’t want to lose you.”

“Everything in life is a risk, baby. Sometimes they pay off, and sometimes they don’t. But you’ll never know unless you take the initial jump. If we lose the gamble, it’ll hurt, but we’ll survive, and it doesn’t have to be a definitive end. We’re adults. There’s nothing saying we can’t take a few steps back and come back to where we know it’s safe.”

“But we’ll always know it’s not going anywhere.”

“Wouldn’t you rather know than always wonder?” he asked, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me over to blanket his body. “Even if we know it’s not going anywhere, we can be friends with really fucking good benefits. We both like my cock inside you.”

“Will you be serious.” I snorted.

“I am. It may not as polite or eloquent as you’d have put it but tell me I’m wrong.”

“A month.”

“What?”

“Let’s try this for a month and see where it goes.”

His smile lit up the dark room, and my heart exploded into a gallop at the sight of it. Having been the one to put it there made my chest expand, and the love I’d suppressed for so long spilled out. Moving in together had the potential to be a horrible idea, but I couldn’t think about that now. Not when he was looking at me that way.

“I’m going to devour you again,” he said, sliding my legs on either side of his and positioning me over his erection. “Tomorrow, I want to tell the world.”

“Wha—?” I didn’t have time to finish. Noah was filling me, his hands holding me down on him as he smirked up at me, and just like that, the question disappeared.

ChapterTwo

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Noah didn’t tell the world. He didn’t even tell his team about his hare-brained scheme. Instead, after waking me up with his mouth and fingers, he whispered that I was going to be his secret for a while longer before he shared me with the world.

I understood it was bullshit, the empty compliments there to hide Noah’s sudden freak out at what he’d done the night before. It was the very reason I hadn’t bothered starting to figure out logistics in my head. As much as I loved the man, he was the definition of a flake. He may have meant every single word he’d said last night, but sober and awake, he was redoing the math in his head and calculating the odds.

“I want to spend the day with you,” he declared once I’d stepped out of the shower later that morning.

I pressed my hands together in mock worship and batted my eyelashes. “A whole day withtheNoah Jennings?”

Flashing his award-winning smile, he rolled from the bed, still naked as the day he was born, approaching me in his usual swagger. “We’ll do anything you want to do. Rome? Paris? New York? A day on the yacht?”

I felt myself light up at the last option. I may have skin that burned at the slightest glance at the sun, but I loved his yacht, or closer to the point, his superyacht. It was a 279-footer with a hot tub and every little luxury his house had, only on the ocean, away from prying eyes and constant disruptions.

“How about we spend a few days out there?” he said, interpreting my look correctly. He brushed his lips against my neck, teeth grazing the flesh there.

“You mean it?”

The heat of his breath and the vibration of his hum had my fingers tangling in his hair as he grazed a tendon in my neck, understanding exactly what it would do to me.

“I have a meeting on Monday. We can stay out there until Sunday.”

“And what on earth are we going to do with all that time alone together?”
