I smiled down at her as I tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. Georgia smiled at me, but I could see the worry in her eyes. I was sure that it was the same worry I felt.

Somehow, we would have to tell Mia we were having a child together.

My stomach lurched at the thought. If I thought Mia would be upset about our relationship before, I was sure this would only worsen things.

Still, the excitement outweighed the worry.

“I love you,” I said as my gaze met Georgia’s. “I know that this entire thing between us feels like a lot to handle, but I love you, and we’re going to get through it together.”

She nodded and swallowed hard. A small smile spread across her face. “I love you too.”

Georgia stood on her toes, her mouth meeting mine in a soft kiss. I held her tighter, turning to watch the waves collide with the shore beneath the stars.

It was a perfect night.

Chapter Thirteen: Georgia

“Thisbeachhouseisamazing,” I said as Mia finished her tour. “Your dad showed me a few pictures when we were at work, but it doesn’t compare to the real thing.”

Guilt twisted through me at the lie. There was no way I could tell her I had been here several times.

Or I had been here just a few nights ago, telling Brett about the pregnancy.

I smiled as I looked out the window at the spot where Brett and I had confessed our love for each other. It would be hard to be at the beach house all weekend and not think about the memories I had already made here.

“It’s beautiful. I thought he was crazy for buying it at first. But, then, he spent a lot of time fixing it up. It became something extraordinary, though.”

“It is a nice place.”

Mia grinned and reached into the fridge, hauling several beer bottles. “Time to go light a fire and get hammered.”

“I’m off alcohol this month,” I said as I followed her out the back door and down to the fire pit on the beach. “I’ve had more to drink since moving here than I’ve had since we were in university. I need a break.”

“More for me.” Mia grinned as she put the bottles of beer on a little table between two chairs surrounding the fire pit. “Dad is going to be coming up later. He had some things to deal with in town first.”

I smiled and sat down in one of the other chairs, handing her little sticks from the basket of kindling beside me. Mia built a fire as the sun dipped toward the horizon.

“After New York Fashion Week, I’m thinking of trying to open a boutique,” Mia said as she cracked open a beer bottle and took a sip.

“You would kill it.”

“I know.” She sat down in one of the other chairs. “The problem is that I don’t know how I will have time to design and run a store simultaneously.”

“You know that’s why people hire other people.”

Mia nodded as she pulled a little speaker from her pocket. After a few seconds of fiddling with it, she connected it to her phone, and soft music filled the air.

“I could hire other people, but then it feels like I’m doing less of everything myself. I want to do as much as possible, but I don’t know how people find time.”

“You can do anything you put your mind to. Besides, I’m sure there are tons of people you could interview. There are always students looking to get their foot in the door with fashion, and working with a designer in her boutique would be the opportunity of a lifetime for some of them.”

Mia nodded and took another drink. “I’m going to think more about it, but if I go through with it, I don’t think I can stay here and do it. Blackwater is too small to have a good client base.”

“You can do whatever you set your mind to. I’m sure you’ll figure out what’s best for you.”

She shrugged and set the drink aside as a new song came on. “I love this song!”

Mia got up and started dancing around, clouds of sand flying while the flames climbed higher toward the night sky. I laughed and joined her, swirling around and dancing as the waves crashed against the shore.
