I frowned and looked at them closer they were almost my mother's age, yet they were acting like newlyweds.

“Interesting,” I muttered and turned the page.

The next page had their address, mail, and personal lines. Smiling, I turned to the next page, which was a brief history of the couple.

They were both from the same city, and their grandparents had been among the city’s founding fathers, making it easier for them to find each other.

“They look like the fucking Brady bunch.” I said out loud. Clearly, people aren’t this happy all the time. It was almost annoying me.

They had two kids, a girl named Alexandria and a boy named Joe. “The million-dollar family, a boy, and a girl, how sweet,” I said again, rolling my eyes. Their pictures weren’t there, but they weren’t of any importance to me. Their parents signing the deed of the property was my only interest.

“The perfect little family, with their perfect little life. How lovely,” I thought out loud, annoyed that they were making this transaction so difficult. What was it about them that made them not want to sell? They seem like pretty simple life people, and what I am offering is life-changing money. I cannot, for the life of me, figure it out.

I took my phone from the table, took a picture of the house address, closed the file, and dropped it on the table.

I reached for the other file, opened it, and it was the picture of the mayor who had taken a hundred thousand dollars from James without fulfilling his part of the deal. “Fucking fraud.” Frowning, I turned the page, took out my phone, and took a picture of his address too. It annoyed the shit out of me that this guy managed to steal one-hundred thousand dollars from my company. “Dammit, if James can’t get this man to speak, I guess I need to do it myself.

Satisfied, I dropped the file, took the flash drive inside the envelope, and inserted it into my MacBook. I rested my back on the seat and watched it.

“Oh, for fuck sakes,” I said out loud, and annoyed at myself. The contents were almost identical to the information on the files. Wasting time always pisses me off, and I was irritated that I had just done that.

I sat up and airdropped the files into my phone. Now with all the documents needed, I closed the MacBook, and the files, placed them together, pushed it gently to the side, and let out a deep sigh.

“Okay, Edwards family, what are you hiding that is so precious that you won’t sell your farm for millions more than your land is worth,” I said out loud, determined to find out the truth.

I stood from the chair and tried to leave but checked my reflection in the mirror. I looked good, but the shorts and t-shirt were not appropriate for the days meetings.

I took a look at my watch to check the time “Shit, I am late,” I said out loud. I had wasted more time going through the files James had sent, as I was planning to work out, but now there is no time.

I briefly found myself thinking back into bed with Lucy the night before. Her skin was so soft, her breasts, perfect, and her lips were delicious. I could feel my dick start to harden.

“Fuck, no. I don’t have time for this,” I said to myself. I began to take off my shorts and t-shirt, and changed into a suit. It was necessary I leave an excellent first impression, and nothing does that well more than a suit.

I sighed, placed the phone in my pocket, and checked my watch again. It was already ten. I muttered a curse and adjusted my collar. This was it. “Here goes nothing,” I said and sighed heavily once more.

Gently I turned and began to head out of my room. I hadn’t gone a few steps when I heard their voices. I adjusted my tie and increased my steps while walking towards the sitting room where the noise was coming from, unsure of how to proceed if I happened to meet Lucy now.

I reached the doorway, took a deep breath, opened it, and entered. Their conversation stopped as the three women turned toward me.

“The missing boy returns,” Ella muttered as she clapped while turning toward Mother, who was sitting with her legs crossed.

I walked over to her and kissed her on both cheeks. “Morning, Mom.”

“You really should stop missing out on your guests. They were anxious to see you when the party ended.”

I scoffed and turned away from her, my gaze meeting Lucy, who looked indifferent, as she curled up on the couch, pressing her phone. “They were drunk, I wanted them to enjoy themselves, and I also had other important things that needed to be done.”

I saw Lucy’s hands shake slightly, and she held the phone in both hands, removed the strands of hair covering her eyes, and took a quick breath while trying to hide her face.

“Your friend is red in the face.” I began as I turned to Ella, now looking at Lucy. “Is she alright?”

Ella scoffed and faced me, “She was quite chatty until you came in it seems she wasn’t in the mood to have you question everything she does.”

Lucy tapped her gently on the arm and turned to look at me while forcing a smile, “I am fine, sir. Thank you for the worry.”

“It’s Mason, by the way. Only my staff calls me sir.”

Ella chuckled and clapped while turning toward Mom, “It seems your son, my only brother, woke up on the good side of his bed this morning.”
