“Unlike you, of course, who can’t relate to any sign of your bed giving you the luxury of a little happiness.”

Ella flared up while Lucy laughed, “You heard what he just said, Mom? Lucy, you heard that right? God, Mason, you are so petty it makes my skin crawl.”

“Maybe it's just your attributes that are finally rubbing off on me after spending these few days with you.”

“Unbelievable,” Ella muttered and covered her face. “Just unbelievable.”

“Oh please, you two, that is enough fighting, please. Tell me, Mason, where are you going dressed like that? Is there a board meeting somewhere?”

“No.” I said, “Just have a few things to handle in Tennessee.”

Lucy’s face shot up as she looked at me, frowned, and continued doing what she was doing.

“That is pretty far from home.”

“Yeah, but I will be making use of the bird.”

“Oh, okay,” Mom nodded, “Hope everything’s all right.”

“Yeah, I can handle it, just a quick trip, as there is something that needs my attention.”

“Anything I can help with?”

“No, thank you.”

Ella sneered and turned away. “Any chance you are planning to stay there, for, oh I don’t know, FOREVER?”

“You wish!”

Ella nodded and folded her hands in prayer. “Yup, pretty much wished that my entire life.”

“Sorry to disappoint you, my dear sister,” I said with a smirk. “I will return before you even notice that I am gone.”

“I can still hope.” Ella replied and smiled wearily at me.

I scoffed and turned to leave, but a call from Mom had me turning. “Any problem?”

“No, no problem. I just can’t decide what outfit to wear for the portrait. Can you help me choose? You have an undeniable sense of fashion like the suit you wore yesterday. That was brilliant, everybody was talking about it. Lucy here said it was the most beautiful suit she has ever seen.”

I looked at Lucy and found her blushing as she turned her face away from me, “Oh, she did, did she?”

“Probably a slip of the tongue. We had too much to drink yesterday.”

“We really had a drink before she said that,” Mom retorted with a wave of the hand. “Right, Lucy? Why are you so quiet, Lucy? You were very chatty earlier.”

“I am okay, Eve.” She muttered while shifting the strand of hair on her face beside her ear. “Just taking care of a few things,” She said and shrugged, “You know, family stuff.”

“Oh please, do go ahead.” Mom turned to me. “So, tell me, son, here, have a look at these clothes. I want the company to bring some options over, but I don’t know which ones to choose.” She muttered as she stretched out her hand with her phone in it.

I took it and began to look closely at it, the whole time glancing slightly toward Lucy to know what she was doing.

I sighed, set my eyes on the screen, and began to check through the pictures, unsure which to choose.

“Found any that you like yet?” Mom asked, rubbing her hands excitedly.

“Here.” I gave the phone to her, and pointed to one I thought would look nice on her. She looked at it once, smiled, and placed it in her heart while giggling. “I knew that’s what you would choose. You know we think so much alike, Mason.”

“Yeah, I guess.” I muttered, “When will Lucy start the portrait?” I asked, hoping for Lucy to say anything.
