“Shhhhh,” Mason muttered, raising his finger to stop his sister from speaking further, his gaze not moving again from mine. “What the hell are you guys doing?”

“We were—” I began.

“Just stop . . .” Mason sighed, interrupting me, threw the pillow on the bed, and rubbed his forehead.

“Lucy, you heard what the doctor said, you need your rest, and this certainly does not look like rest to me,” Mason said to me, while glaring over at Ella.

“Ewww, who are you?” Ella said almost laughing. “Mason Blackwood is actually concerned for someone else’s well-being besides his own? Am I dreaming, been abducted by aliens, I don’t understand what is happening here.” Lucy said acting as if she was about to pass out jokingly.

“Funny, Ella,” Mason said and rolled his eyes. “I can sometimes be nice to people who aren’t my annoying little sister. Besides your friend here needs my help. Obviously, you are not capable as you are having a pillow fight,” Mason said looking back at Ella with a stern look.

He looked back at me with kind eyes. Those eyes that got me in trouble, that have me in trouble now. I could feel a little sense of warmth as he looked at me.

“Come on, Lucy, let me help you up,” Mason said very softly, and offered a hand.

“Fuck he is handsome,” I said in my head as I reached out to grab his hands. They were so warm and inviting. I could not keep my eyes off of his eyes, but quickly caught Ella watching us, so I needed to look away.

I tried to bring my body up and found how tired I was after the little game with Ella. Mason pulled me up with both hands, and then slipped an arm around my waist.

I held the pillow to myself and snuggled closer to it.

“Your suite is ready, Lucy. I will take you to it,” Mason said softly. “Let’s get you in a wheelchair to make this little jaunt easier.”

“Oh no, I am fine to walk,” I said to him, but he wasn’t having it.

Suddenly, he and Ella agreed on something for once.

“Oh, yes, that is so smart,” Ella said as she turned to walk out the door, “I will grab one for you.”

“No, really, I am fine,” I said trying to convince them, but I really wasn’t fine. I was exhausted. My whole body was exhausted, and I knew Mason could feel my weakness as he was holding my waist so tenderly and safe.

I removed my gaze from him and held the pillow tightly as tears clouded my eyes again.

“You certainly don’t look fine to me. Come on, let me help you.” Mason said as Ella entered the room with a wheelchair.

I sighed loudly and wiped the tears from my face. “Okay, you are both right, I am exhausted. I will take your advice and sit in the wheelchair. I just want to lay down.”

“Excellent choice,” Ella said with a smile. “I will bring your things after I take you to your suite.”

“I will take her there,” Mason said sternly. “You grab her things and follow along, Ella.”

“But,” Ella started, and Mason raised a hand to her to stop talking.

She groaned and rolled her eyes, but started to gather the few things that I had in the room with me. “Fine, let’s go, then,” Ella continued.

“All right,” his voice calm and soothing, “come on, Lucy. Let’s get you to your bed,” Mason said as he moved me gently into the wheelchair, as if I weighed nothing at all.

I very much enjoyed his hands on my body, but I had to hide it so Ella wouldn’t be suspicious.

Ella smiled and touched my cheeks gently. “Don’t worry. I will be here with you.”

I sighed as he was putting my feet up on the wheelchair pegs, looked toward him and caught his gaze. A gentle smile came across his face as he said, “okay, all set, let’s get you to your room.”

“I will be right beside you, sweetheart,” Ella shouted as we exited the room.

As Mason turned the wheelchair toward the door, he slowly whispered in my ear, “we can’t keep this a secret forever. Ella needs to know.”

I turned my head quickly to him and shot him a dirty look. I then closed my eyes and leaned my head back into the wheelchair and let out a large sigh.
