“Just stop, fuck.” I grabbed my neck while turning toward her, “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

“Mason?” Ella frowned. “Is that really you?”

I beat my chest and cursed further. “Of course, it’s me. Who else is it going to be?”

Ella frowned and raised her hands, “I am sorry. I am just trying to make sure.”

“Make sure of what? By grabbing my neck and trying to squeeze me to death.”

She flared up, glaring at me. “Why are you going to push the blame on me? I am not the one who has chosen to act like a robot all through my life.”

“Fuck, this is unbelievable,” I whispered while moving my neck to bring back friction. “Trying to kill me right under my roof.”

“I wasn’t trying to kill you. I was just trying to get the demon that seemed to have possessed you to leave your body.”

“Demon?”

“I am—”

“Just stop.” I interrupted, “You know what, just go where you are going, and I am sorry for disturbing you or showing even the slightest bit of concern.”

“It wasn’t my intention.” She insisted.

“Just go.”

Instead of leaving, she began to draw close to me. “Are you okay now?”

I stepped back, raising my hands in protection if she had any further thoughts. “Just go, all right.”

“I just want to see your neck.” She cried, getting closer to me, but I moved around, trying to be as far from her as possible. “Just a look.”

“No, I am perfectly fine, thank you.”

“Why are you so annoying?” She fumed, folding her hands, “Stop making it more difficult already.”

“No, I am fine, just go, really, I am fine.”

Ella paused momentarily, sighed, and began to walk away from the door, but just as I was about to enter Lucy’s room, she turned and pointed at me. “Before I go, what’s your plan for Lucy?”

“Christ, Ella, just go already. Can’t I check in on someone who’s sick in my own home?”

“You never seemed to have a heart inside your chest, and I am here wondering when you suddenly got one.”

“Well, maybe I always had one, you just never gave me any opportunity to show it to you,” I muttered as I opened the door to the room, stepped inside, and turned towards Ella again. “Just go, leave me the fuck alone.” I muttered as I clenched the door shut and shook my head, “Fucking hell.”

I turned around to find Lucy still lying on the bed, her eyes open. “I heard voices outside.”

“The room is soundproof.”

“The door was open.”

I scratched my head, “Oh, right.”

“You had another fight with your sister?”

“Quiet the opposite.” I reached toward her and looked at her color, “She was the one doing a major part of the fighting. I said that I had hoped that she had slept well, and she proceeded to grab me by my neck and began to say a demon has bewitched me.” I sighed and looked at Lucy’s smiling face. “Can you believe that? She almost strangled me to death for fucks sake, and to think you were the one who advised me to talk to her kindlier. If I didn’t know better, I would have believed this was a grand plan by the both of you to kill me as my punishment.” I said, and seeing Lucy smiling made me bring my guard down slightly.

She snuggled closer to her pillow and removed the strands out of her face. “Thank God you didn’t then.”
