Oh hell yes, I was ready to make this woman my wife.

I fell in love with Briar during the time we learned how to parent together.

And now, she had two shops, the one in Berkeley and a new shop in Coronado that was blowing away expectations and turning a tidy profit.

Hell, life was pretty damn perfect and I never would’ve predicted that it would turn out so well.

Briar lifted her hips and held onto the headboard to absorb my thrusts. “God, I love you,” I gasped, needing to fill that sweet channel with every drop.

Briar’s flushed face and tousled bedhead was the epitome of beauty as I came hard inside her. We were trying for a sister or a brother for Victoria. I wanted more kids. I wanted a whole houseful of littles running around. Until I had Briar and Victoria in my life I couldn’t have known how much I was missing. Now, I was greedy for so much more.

I cradled her against me, feeling her heartbeat against mine. “I love you,” I murmured in a breathy declaration against her crown. “I love you so much.”

“I love you, too, baby,” Briar said, pressing a soft kiss against my lips. We only had so much time before Victoria would awake and holler for her breakfast but I wanted to savor this moment.

I never meant to fall in love with the best friend of my daughter’s mother but somethings were out of our control.

And I was so grateful.

Jessica, God rest her soul, was an angel who brought me two of the most amazing gifts on earth and I would forever love her for it.

I would spend the rest of my life doing anything I could do deserve this life gifted to me.

And that included making my girls fresh blueberry pancakes.

Which was exactly what I planned to do after a quick round two.

“Ready, baby?” I asked with a devilish grin, flipping Briar to her belly so I could feast my eyes on that luscious behind. “Daddy’s hungry tonight.”

She groaned as I lifted her ass to my mouth. Like I said, she brought out the animal in me.

Whoever said, ‘nice guys finished last’ didn’t know the one essential truth —guys finished last so their ladies could finish first.

And whenever I was with my lady, she came over and over and over.

Because I took my job seriously.

Briar cast a sassy look over her shoulder, teasing, “You’re not going to get me pregnant that way.”

I growled with husky laughter . “Oh baby, don’t you worry. I got that handled. Now give me that sweet ass.”

What started as a summer fling turned into the greatest blessing of my life and I would never forget how lucky I was for that unexpected surprise.

Life was good, baby.
