“I can.”

I did a double-take. “I’m confused. What are you proposing?”

“Look, I’ve been a single guy for a long time and I inherited money from my parent’s estate. It’s true I used a large chunk for the house but I still have some tucked away for a rainy day. I’d be happy to help float you while you’re figuring things out. I’m going to need help learning how to be a parent and you’re the best person to teach me. You know Victoria best. Like I said earlier, I’m willing to do whatever I need to, to be the best father I can be. If that means helping you out for the time being, I’m more than willing to do that.”

I didn’t know how to act in the face of that level of generosity. Aside from Jessica, I’d always been on my own. My first instinct was to decline but then I looked into Victoria’s little gaze and I knew I couldn’t say no.

Jessica named me and Victor as her daughter’s guardians. We both had to be willing to make changes for Victoria’s benefit.

I slowly nodded, accepting his offer. “If you’re sure...”

“I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life. It feels right.”

And you know what, he was right. Everything felt right for the first time since Jessica had died even though it didn’t make a lick of sense on paper.

“Then, I guess you have a new roommate for the time being. I hope you like Thai food because I’m a little obsessed.”

He grinned. “Small confession, that excessive take-out admission? Yeah, it’s Thai food. I have my favorite restaurant on speed dial.”

Suddenly, I knew it was going to be okay.

Victoria grinned as if she knew, too.

I guess the three of us were going to figure out together and we’d see where things ended up.

I had a feeling though…and I wasn’t mad about it.

To be honest, it just felt right, too.

Epilogue

Six months later…

In a thousand years, I’d never tire of the breathy way Briar came when she shattered beneath my tongue, her hips lifting and her thighs shaking as her pink nipples pearled like beaded raspberries ripe for the plucking.

Funny how life had a way of working out, possibly not in the way you imagined, but so much better.

“Victor!” she gasped as I held her down, determined to push her even further into that abyss until she soaked the bed from her juices. Briar was everything I never realized I’d been waiting for in a woman but now that she was in my life, I couldn’t imagine anyone else taking her place.

And I loved making her cum.

“C’mon sweet girl, cum for me again,” I murmured against her damp flesh, sucking the swollen nub of her clitoris, driving her with merciless strokes to that next cliff.

“I can’t,” she gasped but she was already shaking, stiffening and squeezing the twisted bedsheets in her palms until her knuckles whitened. I grinned, knowing that she would tumble within seconds.

True to my estimation, she tried to hold back but couldn’t stop. I waited for her to stop shaking, then, I climbed her luscious body and lifted her legs over my shoulders so I could drive my cock home.

I prided myself on being a gentleman for my lady. I enjoyed cooking family meals together, creating a household, and seeing to her every need, but in the bedroom, we were insatiable for one another. Behind that bedroom door, we were free to be animals and I didn’t waste a moment of our time together.

Sometimes we made love; other times we fucked.

It was the best of both worlds and we were so perfectly matched.

I buried myself between her hot thighs, sinking balls deep into Briar until I swear we became one. God, how I loved this woman.

So unexpected, so crazy how things turned out.

I never would’ve imagined that six months ago, a stranger would’ve shown up with a baby on her hip that would turn out to be my daughter and that woman would then become my fiancee.
