“Hmmm.”

Tore glanced athis wife. “Hmmm?” His eyes widening in surprise. “You like him?”

“You do too. Admitit. You enjoyed teasing him.”

“I admit nothing, except that the Demon could talk under water if needed.”

“Yes, true, butdid you notice Shaw attempt to shut him up even once?”

“No. Nor did sheissue the slightest of grumbles regarding her job or make a reference to herhated knee injury, even obliquely.”

Christina sighed,a mixture of amusement and resignation. “I think we’re about to welcome aConflict Demon into the family.”

“Do you think Shawknows?”

“Freyja, no. Ilove our eldest but she is as oblivious as you were when I hunted down yourtight ass.”

“You, hunt me?That’s not how I remember it.” It was an old argument but one they never tiredof. “I only allowed you to think you did the hunting. That is the mark of asupreme predator you know, letting the prey do all the work.”

“Is that right?”Christina leaned over, planting a kiss against the side of Tore’s throat. “Whydon’t we adjourn this discussion to the bedroom?”

“And Shaw and herDemon?”

“Darling, weraised three wilful, independent Valkyries, did you really think you would geta say in who they loved?”

Gracefully risingto his feet, Tore grabbed his mate by the hand, pulling her up beside him, leaning in to kiss her quickly. “He’d better prove worthy of her.”

“I’ll tell youwhat, he hurts her, we hunt him down. Whoever gets the head gets braggingrights for the next year.”

“Deal.” Torekissed his mate again, a little longer, sinking in to the feel of Christina’swarm lips against his. “You always did know how to get me in the mood.”

“I’m a Valkyrie,we’re gifted like that.” Giving her mate a far from gentle shove in thedirection of the house.

“I doubt anyonehas ever said this to you before, Shaw. But could you drive a little faster?”Kaleb couldn’t help but glance back to ensure neither one of her parents was ontheir tail.

“Relax. They’ll betoo busy having sex right about now to bother coming after you… tonight.”

“See you had tosay it like that, didn’t you?” Gripping the door handle as Shaw took a cornersharply, the sturdy jeep belonging to Zuri rocking from side to side. The smellof sulphur and explosives tainting the air, leaving Kaleb to wonder justexactly what the youngest Begala Valkyrie had stashed in the back of thevehicle. He was guessing if they were rear ended, he’d probably find himselfrocketing in the direction of the moon. But still… given the dinner with Shaw’sparents, he didn’t request Shaw slow down.

Reaching up Kalebabsently wiped moisture away from his brow. Him sweating, it was a first. “Youwere no help back there.”

“Back where?” Shawglanced in the rearview mirror, confused.

“Dinner at yourparents. Telling them I named you Consort. Bringing up the linen closet. Howwas any of that helpful?”

“I didn’t know Iwas supposed to be helpful. I invited you there for dinner. You were fed.”

“You… I…” Kalebclenched his teeth together. He just couldn’t find the words to describe howtraumatic the evening had been, and how the wave of relief that he’d managed tosurvive was all but smothering him right at this moment. He focused hisattention instead upon unravelling the bandage covering his hand. Stretchingout his fingers experimentally. The tips of the regrown digits were a littlenumb but that feeling was fading fast.

“You okay?”

Huh, the Valkyriecared after all.

“It’s just you’vestopped talking, and I turned the car engine off about five minutes ago. You’vejust been sitting there like you’re made out of stone or something.”

Oh… that was kindof embarrassing. “Just enjoying the view.”
